DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY on CareerBuilder's RESUME LAUNCHER! You may get "more" than you bargained for!
I looked at several resume launchers to get a head start on my job search and decided to go with CareerBuilder. It seemed to be reputable because it's one of the largest job sites and many local newspapers use them to sell internet postings for jobs.
CareerBuilder claims to have access to over 13,000 recruiters. Their ad said they could target more than 5,000 of them as soon as the resume was transmitted. The service was $49.99.
I've been in the business world for over 20 years and have a lot of experience at the management level so I thought this would be a good way to get my name out there.
Imagine my surprise when I counted the number of recruiters who received my resume. It was less than 1,000. Of course I expected many recruiters to be from another state since most companies I've worked for are headquartered elsewhere, but there were virtually no local companies represented, despite my request to target my local area. I expected the usual nuisance inquiries from multilevel marketing, insurance companies and financial planners. There were numerous letters from other resume launcher companies.
THE SHOCKER: A letter came, asking me to make SEX CALLS from my home phone. It was definitely the result of CareerBuilder's Resume Launcher because the letter said so. Out of curiosity I did a computer search on the sender's name. This woman was responsible for numerous sexual phone lines with "employees" who complained about never being paid.
I'm not a prude. My POINT is that NO ONE wants to be contacted about these kinds of jobs when a service has been paid to help find a legitimate job.
THE GOOD NEWS: I complained about the sex job company, the number of recruiters who received my resume and the geographic area that was used. Thankfully, my money was refunded the same day. The CareerBuilder agent said that company had been dropped from their Resume Launcher.
I don't know if CareerBuilder owns the launcher site or if they outsource. There are certainly many, many launcher sites. I am totally soured on this kind of service and will never use another one. DO think about it before YOU spend your money!
CareerBuilder IS a good source to search for available and reputable jobs.
