Pros: Direct Connect and Nationwide Direct Connect excellent for instant communication.
Cons: Signal strength stinks. I doubt standing under a tower would even make it better.
The Bottom Line: Nextel should really be much better than it is. Would not recommend Nextel, and will be getting out as soon as I can.

| thowell's Full Review: Nextel Mobile Phone Service in Orlando |
I should have listened to my wife. I had been a very long time subscriber of Cingular (10+ years), and never had a problem with their service. Customer care was horrible, but that is for a different review.
I began to realize the need for a walkie talkie capability on my phone and naturally I looked at Nextel with Direct Connect. I could have waited a couple of months for some of the other carriers to introduce their version, but I figured that Nextel had to be better because they had been around longer, and had bound to have gotten all the bugs out by now.
Nextel service in Orlando is hit and miss at best. People consistently call me, but get automatically forwarded to my voice mail, and I never knew they called
the phone never rang.
When I do get someone on the phone, the signal cuts in and out, and I have had more dropped calls in the first 2 months of Nextel than I ever had with Cingular.
Traveling? Forget it. Even on major interstates you lose a signal completely.
The Direct Connect works though, and the Nationwide Direct Connect has been impressive.
My wife warned me that she had heard bad things about Nextel, but I found out the hard way.
Im going to be moving to Louisiana, and I am hoping that maybe things will change with a new area. If not, I think I may suck up the $200 disconnect fee and go back to Cingular.
