From Metal to Jazz (Reply to this comment)
by jazzlover2
I live in Egypt. 4 years ago i shifted from 70's metal to Jazz. I am an admirer of B. Holiday, Ella, Simon, Chet Baker and Charlie Parker. Your list is GREAT, but i wonder why didn't you include the above mentioned? they are good...so good as a matter of fact

Great advice for a starting jazz-lover (Reply to this comment)
by trasjman
Thanks for all the advice. I'm only 22, but a great lover of the genre. I just don't have the time to listen to all jazz albums in the store. Being a clarinet player myself I ordered that Benny Goodman album you put on the #1 spot. Can't wait to hear it.

Good choices (Reply to this comment)

Obviously you've done some serious listening. It's nice to see "Sidewinder", an under rated album, and the MJQ concert; they were the first two jazz albums I listened to. Good job.

You sure know your jazz (Reply to this comment)

I recognize almost all the names in your jazz reviews, but "tune out" anything sounding like jazz immediately. Reading about it, however, is much less painful to me. Nice, comprehensive review but I'll pass on its practical application.

what I know about YOUR world of Jazz is very limited, but this was a great review by someone who knows what they are writing about. A+ all the way to "My Blue Heaven."

Great review (Reply to this comment)

Great review - I think 'The Preacher' is probably a stronger album than '...Chicken Stack' and I'd have to include an early Herbie Hancock... you're right ten's not enough. I'll have to list my top ten some day.
Keep up the good work

George Benson, 'eh? Very cool. If I'm not mistaken he had a song in the 80's called "Turn Your Love Around", it's one of my favorite songs of all time.
