Pros: Powerful, tank-like quality, value, serious Hepa filter, and it uses BAGS!!!
Cons: Heavy. small-back workout, no grab-handle, Sears was out of bags at purchase.
The Bottom Line: We thought bagless was the way to go. What a mess! We made the right purchase with this Eureka.

| perry_coma's Full Review: Eureka Smart 4870DT Bagged Upright Vacuum |
My wife and I both hated the bagless Kenmore we had. What a big mess, and smelly! It's a pleasure to use bags again.
Foot lever is NOT problematic...use your LEFT foot. Works everytime.
The brushes are at such a high rpm that the vacuum actually learches forward at the start. It's a heavy machine so your lower back will get tested as you bring the vacuum back towards you.
Great motor! In idle (vacuum in vertical locked position) the brushes quit rotating and it almost sounds like the inside of a plane as it taxis.
For hardwood floors there's a yellow "brush roll control" switch. This switch disengages the brushes.
WARNING!! I snapped the belt because I tilted the vacuum off the floor and then engaged the switch. The braking action of the brushes instantly snapped the belt! Keep the vacuum on the floor with the brushes rotating and pull the yellow switch back GRADUALLY to the "hard floors" position until it clicks and the brushes will stop. There's also a "hard floors" height adjustment. This "brush roll control" switch takes practice as it acts as a braking mechanism for the brushes. You want to pull it back gradually then click into position.
BTW, it was a cinch to replace the belt. 3 screws out...pull brush roller out...place belt around the opposite end of the brushes first...then around brush roller...snap roller back into position...align belt...cover...3 screws back in and done.
Thoughtfully, they placed a little hook to the right side of the handle to guide the cord through. Holding the long cord in your left hand it's completely out of the way.
Also near the handle is a big yellow "floor" to "hose" dial. Dial in the "hose" position and your accessory hose will suck up a small cat. Perfect for pianos, computer keyboards, etc. because it's sooo powerful.
Two separate and clear tubes allow you to see what's getting sucked up. A big yellow screw allows complete removal for unclogging. Nicely done.
Accessories include 3 hose attachments and two extension tubes that fit nicely into one another when not being used.
In the box an extra belt (I've already used it) and 2 extra bags. 3rd bag already in the vacuum.
A serious Hepa filter blows hot but works and the doors to both the filter and bag take some getting used to in snapping back into position.
I did not read the manual (except where to place the initial 3 screws at installation) but I did take the time to study and scrutinize this vacuum. It's a well thought out machine. Build quality is excellent.
Oh! and strangely enough, while vacuuming it will actually throw out musical notes (kind of sounds like a mouth harp).
We made a great purchase here. No more BAGLESS! And if I'm not mistaken this Eureka "The Boss Smartvac" is made in the good 'ol USA...imagine that??
