Pros: The quality of the printing on discs is superb. Photos and text also.
Cons: Occasionally spoils a disc. Transport mechanism for discs does not always work well.
The Bottom Line: For printing just on CDs and DVDs, consider another brand, or at least another model, if by Epson. It does spoil discs occasionally, and may have mechanical problems with discs.

I bought an R300 in December, 2003, specifically to print on CDs and DVDs. That's the only use to which I've put it, other than to check that it prints photos and text OK. (It does.)
I've printed on about 200 Toyo Yuden CDs and Verbatim DVDs. I had to replace all the ink cartridges after the 169th. At about $80 for a set, then, I paid about 50 cents to print each disc.
The R300 is not perfect in printing on discs. Occasionally, it will print short, unwanted, irregular filaments on a disc. Generally, these are black. I have read another review that mentioned the same thing, in connection with printing on paper. In that case, customer service was said to have cooperated well, but the problem was said not to have gone away. I have not contacted customer service, since I don't want to exchange printers and risk having a worse problem. I can live with the roughly 5% of the discs to which this happens.
The transport mechanism which moves the disc into and out of the print area is not perfect. Occasionally, the transport tray will not move at the start of the cycle, even though the motor appears and sounds to be running. If I nudge the tray slightly, it does move and all goes well. This has been happening more frequently lately - about 20% of the time.
The quality of the printing is exceptionally good to my eyes. It is very crisp and sharp. I certainly have no complaint in this respect.
