Pros: low cost, flexible plans, great customer service
Cons: limited coverage and quality in Philadelphia area
The Bottom Line: Low rates and terrific customer service cannot make up for poor coverage and service quality. As a result, I cannot recommend T-Mobile for users in the Philadelphia area.

| phsfalcon's Full Review: T-Mobile Phone Service in Philadelphia |
I love T-Mobile, well almost. For years, my wife and I have endured the high prices and the declining customer service quality of Verizon Wireless. But, after having switched briefly to Sprint PCS (a real mess), we found that Verizon really did offer better reception and customer service in Philadelphia, so we went back to Verizon. We remained with Verizon because it worked and switching, we found, could lead to something even worse. We felt that way until my wife had a problem with her cell phone and received no help from a Verizon kiosk in a mall. She went to the T-Mobile kiosk and immediately received a new phone and service. I switched days later. We were both thrilled with the wonderful sales staff and the terrific T-Mobile customer support. We liked our phone, loved the rates (much lower than Verizon -- $39/month on T-Mobile for what would have been $75/month with Verizon), and appreciated the generous service plan. We also liked the idea that we could use our phones in the UK. Everything was quite simply wonderful. We wondered why we had endured for so long Verizon's high prices and mediocre (at best) customer service. Then, we got our answer. Traveling around the Philadelphia area, we found we had poor reception compared to Verizon, dropped calls, and even the inability to make cell phone calls even when someone next to us was able to use her cell phone on a different network. T-Mobile looked great on paper. The T-Mobile representatives and staff were wonderful to talk with. Unfortunately, none of that matters if you can't place calls. So, we switched back to Verizon. While T-Mobile was generally good about switching us back, the company's billing department keeps trying to bill us long after the switch-back; we're still trying to deal with their error. As soon as T-Mobile enhances reception in the areas we travel, we'll consider going back to them. Meantime, we'll continue to use Verizon and complain about everything but the ability to actually make and receive calls.
