Background
Prior to Sprint, I had a Cingular phone and plan. I believe my Cingular phone had better rural coverage, but the quality of the connection was not always good. Sometimes, I noticed that my bill was wrong...for some reason Cingular always wanted to change my plans without telling me. I tried working with their customer service, but it was horrible. Sometimes the people were rude, they had a hard time fixing problems that they created, and they just didn't seem to care or understand my frustration.
Why I chose Sprint
Finally, I got tired of Cingular so I went looking for a new provider. I read several reviews that rated Sprint's customer service high, so that got my attention. I liked that Sprint has national coverage and has had national coverage longer than most of the competition. I like to travel, and it is nice having coverage when you are on the road. I also found that Sprint had some very competitive rates, but I must admit that all the providers are so competitive on rates...that I would not base my decision on rates alone.
My Experiences with Sprint
Sprint has never messed up my bill, although I have had questions and called their customer service line. I really like the customer service at Sprint. They have always treated me with respect and they solve my problems the first time. I also like that Sprint has a great web site for their customers, which often answers all of my questions.
I have had Sprint for a little over 2 years, and my experiences have been wonderful. I have traveled to many places, and they always seem to have a tower in the area. I even went to Sanibel Island and thought since I was on an Island in Florida that I would be lucky to get a signal. Wow, was I surprised to find that I actually got a pretty good signal and they even have a tower on the small island. I will say that if you travel too far away from a big city or a major highway the coverage does drop off rather quickly. I believe Cingular had better rural coverage than Sprint, but thankfully I do not find myself in rural areas that I often.
Sprint Phones
I really like the selection of phones that Sprint has to offer. They seem to lead the way with new features and technology. I really like my voice activated dialing, which allows me to say the name of the person I want to dial. I believe almost all of the Sprint phones offer the voice activated dialing, which is a great feature, especially when you need to make a call from the car.
My phone is over 2 years old, and it still works great. It has been dropped out of my pocket and crashed into the ground from about 3-4 feet...without breaking. Unfortunately, I have dropped my phone many times and I am surprised it still works. The battery life is much better than my Cingular phone, but to be fair to Cingular the Sprint phone was much newer and digital vs analog. My 2+ year old phone holds a charge for several days (maybe 5) before needing to be charged again. I normally talk for less than 10 minutes at a time. I have talked for as long as 1 hour on the phone and the battery still had life left in it.
Recommendation
I highly recommend Sprint, especially for people who live, work and travel through large cities and highways. If you live in a more rural community, then Sprint may not be the best option. From a customer service perspective, Sprint wins hands down (stay away from Cingular). If you like the new features and the latest trends in technology, then Sprint is probably the right solution.
