| ted_e_bare's Full Review: Nokia 7110 GSM Cellular Phone |
I bought this phone around 6 months ago. It was refurbished ex-lease. I got it for around AU$110 on eBay including charger, though I have seen the identical package from the same seller go for $70 a few weeks ago.
I was looking to replace my old phone at the time. I was with pre-paid and I didn't want to go on a plan. I was disappointed by the choice of pre-paid phones. They were really aimed at the "wow my first mobile" market. Plus they were all locked to a network which would have been no good for me seeing as I was planning to switch as soon as I had used my Telstra Credit to AAPT who, despite been the cheapest pre-paid, have the lousiest choice in pre-paid handsets.
I was looking for a cheap phone that had lots of practical functionality (ie polyphonic ringtones and colour screens were not an issue). I was also looking for a Nokia as I had tried my parents phones (both Nokias) and found the great (plus I was semi-addicted to Snake).
I love my 7110. It is easy to use and has really handy features. The calendar has been particularly useful. I also like the navi-roller, the size of the phone book, the large screen and the Infra-Red. Also, the novelty of the cover hasn't worn off. My non-techie friends think it is a really advanced phone.
So far as the battery life goes I was rather disappointed to begin with. I would leave home with my phone fully charged, leave it on all day, make a phone call at around 9pm with the meter reading almost full and the battery would go flat almost immediately. Then I would switch it back on again and the meter would show that the battery was still almost full. I bought a replacement battery for around $5 on eBay (after market with a capacity of 1200mAh) and I haven't had any battery trouble since.
Also some of the other reviews I read were critical of the cover (calling it flimsy). I have been using it for 6 months and it must have been in use for a few years before I got it (there were a few minor cosmetic blemishes when it arrived, but nothing noticable from a metre away). I haven't had any trouble with the flip down cover. It is still working fine.
Also other people have said that they have trouble hearing the earpiece. I have had no such problems.
I have 2 minor problems with it. The first is it doesn't have a ringtone composer. The second problem I have is that the only way to lock the keypad is to close the cover and press lock. After the lock button dissappears there doesn't seem to be any way to lock the keys without opening and closing the cover.
Otherwise I am very satisfied.
