Pros: Excellent sound, easy to use, DVD audio support
Cons: somewhat useless remote, nothing else
The Bottom Line: Definitely worth the upgrade from stereo and beats all other external sound cards. DVD audio is great.

| enoeske's Full Review: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX External S... |
To begin, this card is awesome. This card boasts true 24 bit/ 96khz sound, Dolby digital, dts, eax sound effects, thx certification 102 snr and up to 7.1 surround.
Some people are confused that dvd audios don't work but in accordance with dvd audio standards, the 24/96 sound can only be played through the analogue outputs. If you use the optical, the best you can get is dolby digital or dts. Speaking of, connecting to a reciever via optical DOES NOT only give you stereo. It outputs a digital signal like any dvd player. Also, dvd audio playback requires USB 2.0, which can be installed onto any system with and open PCI slot and windows xp.
The optical can only handle so much information at a time, so if you try to play dvd audio, not to be confused with dvd video (two seperate things), over the optical, it can only output 24/96 stereo. This is not a feature unique to creative, but of optical cables and dvd audio standards.
The card has a mic volume and system volume knobs on the front. On the right side, it has headphone output, mic input, optical input and a line in. On the back, it has power input, USB output, analogue outputs for front speakers, rear speakers, and center/sub, and an optical output.
One nice feature is that when you are using the card with the optical output, and plug headphones in, it remembers the volume setting for the headphones.
All in all, I think this card is great. The dvd audio ability is one of this cards biggest selling features.
