| bonniesayers's Full Review: Rubbermaid Servin' Saver Juice Box Assorted Colors |
My now eight year-old son has been attending feeding therapy for 1.5 years now. The process is slow and steady. Several months ago the Occupational Therapist (OT), showed me the Rubbermaid Servin' Saver Juice Box before attempting to use it during a session.
The Rubbermaid Servin' Saver Juice Box comes in assorted colors and contains three pieces. The actual juice box is product number 3115 and holds 473 ml of liquid. There are no lines showing the measurements on this box, but it is not really needed for a child's juice box.
The size of the Rubbermaid Servin' Saver Juice Box is 5.8 x 3.65 x 2.49 in, which is perfect for a child to grasp in their hands while drinking from the patented sipping spout. Since my son has deficits in the self-feeding area, the therapist, his school aide or myself hold the unit and squeeze the contents into his mouth.
The straw is 4 3/4" long, red and white with a slant at the bottom that is the side that rests inside the Rubbermaid Servin' Saver Juice Box. The purple twist off lid is turned upside down to remove and insert the straw. Although the box is dishwasher safe in the top rack, I utilize a q-tip to clean around the inside of the purple lid, plus we do not have a dishwasher.
I really do not feel comfortable reusing a straw, so I purchased two of the Rubbermaid Servin' Saver Juice Box . They sell for $1.99 at Target and Rite Aid. When you make the purchase you receive a paper inside the box that is the order form for 10 straws. This is at a cost of $2.00 that includes tax, shipping and handling.
I would rather see the extra straws sold in the same section as the Rubbermaid Servin' Saver Juice Box, especially when it can take from four to six weeks to receive the straws. I just intend to purchase more this summer since my son begins summer daycamp this week.
The straw order form is a bit confusing since they do not list item numbers, but do show black and white photos of each item they sell that contains a straw. Also included on the form is the unit measure for each container. They have an eight ounce container, the one pint, a bear juice box and a few others listed.
When I first made the purchases of the Rubbermaid Servin' Saver Juice Box I washed it in warm soapy water. At the top of the box is a faint print that states fill line. I never fill with more than half way. So far we have used the juice box for soymilk, yogurt drink and apple juice.
The spout is a white plastic piece that either lays flat across the lid when in the closed mode or lifted up to drink from. The spout is very small and not wide, a few sips and squeezed from the middle gets the contents out for my son to taste and lick.
This is easy to hold with one or two hands, we place it inside the Arctic Zone lunch bag along with a Rubbermaid Take Alongs Ice Substitute. It fits perfectly inside and is placed in a backpack when transporting in the Minivan.
When at school the lunchbag stood upright on a table in the classroom and never tipped over or spilt the contents inside the Rubbermaid Servin' Saver Juice Box. The box is clear just as the photo is pictured above. This makes it easier for the child to see and know the contents inside.
The straw snaps indide the unit and stays secure inside the juice box. It is easy to remove by pulling it out of the lid. This has proved to be very leak resistant. I placed a sticker with my son's name on the bottom of the Rubbermaid Servin' Saver Juice Box. It lasted for several weeks before fading from daily washing.
Upon first opening of the Rubbermaid Servin' Saver Juice Box we lucked out that it did not have that new plastic smell, plus you wash it first so that helps keep it sanitary and clean smelling. I was able to use a bottle brush for cleaning around the rim and the bottom, especially when you go from using milk to juice during the course of a week.
It is very faint and could be hard to read, but on the bottom of the Rubbermaid Servin' Saver Juice Box is 473 ml 16 oz. The label I placed on was very easy to peel off. The straw order form is also available online at:
