The Kyocera Super Model is a basic phone model. It works. I'm not into fancy cell phone features. Can I enter a number and dial? Yup, that's good. But what's really special about this phone is the bundled service from Virgin Mobile USA:
One month I'll use a lot of minutes, the next month none. I calculated my effective cost per minute with my old cell plan, and it was nearly a dollar!
Finally I found Virgin Mobile USA, and I've never looked back. Their plan is simple:
* Prepaid, by cash or credit card.
* 25 cents a minute.
* After the 10th minute in a day the rate drops to 10 cents.
* Outgoing text messages are 10 cents.
* You must deposit at least $20 every three months. But unlike other plans, your money never expires.
This works much better than the "rollover minutes" other plans offer.
The voice quality is identical to that of SprintPCS (e.g. "not so great"). But Virgin's customer service is really something special. They go after the college market, and everyone who answers the phone is a 20-something with a (good) attitude. They are helpful, well trained and happy to come to work each day (you can tell).
I'm happy with the phone, and the service. In fact, I have now purchased phones for my wife and mother. My only complaint is minor. If you don't spend $20 in three months, you have to manually top up the account. The automatic top-up feature only works if your spending is more than $20.
