Store said in stock. Ordered Sony DSC-T1 immediately. I then called cust. serv. to find out when it would ship. They transfered me, not to shipping, but to sales (a bad sign). Sales person told me they were out of stock and would not get their next shipment in for another 4-6 weeks. I asked why they had not updated their website as it indicated it was still in stock. He said it would cost them extra money to update the website and that by providing inaccurate information, and by not wasting money on providing accurate information, they could provide lowest costs on the search engine pages.
He claims he had 1-2 units in stock earlier today, but he seemingly already knew they were out of stock:
me: "I'd like to know when my order will be shipping"
him: "well I'll have to check if it is in stock"
me: "but your website listed it in stock when I ordered it"
him: "well, it may have been when you viewed the product but not when you ordered it"
His claim of 1-2 units in stock earlier sounded false. He
went on "well I guess you have had a problem finding this camera in stock" (his was the first place I checked). "we have trouble keeping it in stock since the retail on the camera is 700 and we sell it for 360. I told him retail
on the camera on sony's website was $499. At first he
didn't believe me but then said that his site was still $160 below that (no doubt a loss leader given other's experiences). He did ask if I wanted to cancel since availability was 4-6 weeks out. I said yes. I called back to verify order was cancelled with their customer service. It had been.
Thanks to the warnings on here I knew what to expect and knew what steps to take to remedy the situation. Bottom
line is that they _appear_ to lie about it being in stock.
If you order online, call them back immediately to ask
for a ship date. Protect yourself.
