Pros: Play, rewind, pause, record beautiful things
Cons: Equipment isn't made as well as I had imagined. I expect more from Sony

We bought our first Tivo about 1 1/2 years ago when we subscribed to Direct TV. We decided to be safe and buy a Sony Tivo. Trustworthy, Quality.........? We paid around $300 for the multi function machine. Tivo as everyone says has changed our life. We aren't home alot so we record our favorite television programs, an occasional movie and my husband records every football game you could imagine. So yes it has changed our lives. However I have one gripe. In May of this year a little over a year after purchase of the machine, we start receiving daily messages from Tivo saying that the modem is failing. We called Tivo and they said sorry its been a year, warranty over. Should we pay to get the machine fixed after the $300 purchase and it only works correctly for a year, I think not. The good thing about this sad disappointment is that the Tivo still works. It still records our shows, the sound is still the same, through the direct TV it still downloads updates and guide information. The only problem is that every time you turn on the TV you have a message that you have to delete. This takes about 60 seconds, you have to go into your mailbox and delete it. Annoying but not a Tv ruining experience. Would I buy another Tivo if mine broke all together? YES. I'm not sure I could live without it. I was never a TV fan until I had this machine. Now I watch 2 shows throughout the year I don't think I would want to live without. I'm so used to this machine that sadly once in a while on my way to work I try and rewind my car radio. Play, rewind, pause, record beautiful things.
