It seems as though we are trying to stay at as many Motel 6's as possible: This review is about the Motel 6 in Saginaw, Michigan.*
Saginaw, Michigan...very exotic. Well, maybe not that exotic, but Saginaw is where we stopped to stay one night on our travels not that long ago. We were driving north on Interstate 75 and needed a place to stay for the night. After driving for so many hours you sometimes become desperate and will stop almost anywhere. Well, I do at least. Don't get me wrong: I'm not saying that the Motel 6 we stayed at was terrible by any means. Quite the opposite. This Motel 6 in Saginaw, Michigan was a decent place to stay for the night.
On the plus side, our room was larger than most Motel 6 rooms. *I learned that this Motel 6 was until recently a Red Roof Inn, which is a sister hotel to Motel 6. (Both are members of the Accor World Wide Hotel family; a worldwide leader in hotels and services.). That was a pleasant surprise because we had a little more space to spread out in our extra-large room.
It was easy access both on and off the freeway. There was quite ample parking as well and on the day we stayed, which was mid-week, the parking lot was pretty empty. We had a room on the first floor (there are two levels). A couple of RV's were parked near us, but we basically never saw anyone else. It was a quiet night for us, which suited me just fine. We parked our rental car right outside our room. The hallways are the exterior-type. There are lots of trees around too, and it was nice to have some shade from the hot sun. Unfortunately, there is NO pool at this particular Motel 6.
We had no complaints either about the furnishings or cleanliness of our room. Everything was just fine. The carpeting was acceptable and I had no qualms about walking around in bare feet. The bath area was also large and the shower had good water pressure. We were given our standard two little bars of soap too and we promptly received extra towels when we requested them. (I brought my own shampoo.)
Our check in was smooth and the lady working the front desk in the lobby was super friendly. I even filled out a hotel form asking guests for feedback. I gave the front desk employee all A 's and praised her for the great job she did in making us feel welcome. I do hope it helped her because she deserved it.
Although it is definitely not a new hotel, the exterior of the hotel looked clean. The lobby has recently been repainted also and looked fresh, I assume after the changeover. Across from the hotel is a large, although somewhat rundown shopping center with some empty storefronts. After we settled into our room and relaxed a bit, we decided to go out and look around Saginaw a bit. We drove around town a while to get acquainted and we also managed to find a buffet restaurant to have dinner at called the:
Old Country Buffet
4695 Bay Rd near Tittabawassee Rd
Saginaw, MI 48604
We had a good meal here and since it was a buffet, my sons could fill up on their favorites, especially the fried chicken.
Frankenmuth is an interesting little Bavarian village a few miles away from Saginaw. This is a very popular tourist area boasting three million visitors each year. Tourist can enjoy German sausages, beer, wine and spirits and more beer.
Small well-behaved pets are allowed at most Motel 6's, including this one, although we did not have our little pug with us this trip.
Locals calls are free and voice-mail is available.
Free HBO and ESPN and many other television channels. Free morning coffee is available in the lobby.
Handicapped rooms and data ports are available.
