| studioki's Full Review: Canon PIXMA iP3000 InkJet Photo Printer |
Words can barely describe how much I like this picture. I have had several recent experiences with home photo printers. The two that I have come into contact with left me with nothing but disapointment. I love digital photography so I demand high level of quality from my prints. So far I have had nothing but low quality blurry pictures that look good from a distance but when examined closely, look like they were printed from a printer.
The Pixma iP3000 allowed me to create photos that were not only the highest quality ive seen from a home photo printer, but ones that didnt look like they were actually printed from a home photo printer.
The printer look snazzy and modern. It blends in well with the dell computer in my home office. I installed the print program and drivers onto my computer and everything was up and running in seconds.
The printer has some pretty impressive stats for its price (I got mine for less than $100).
Up to 4,800 x 1,200 dpi color resolution
Up to 22 ppm black, 15 ppm color
Direct print port, PictBridge compatible
USB interface; PC and Mac compatible
Let me start off by ranting about the three aspects that made me fall in love with this printer.
1. Some printers out there make very nice 4X6 prints. Unfortunatly when the size of the print is increased, the quality usually decreases. This printers breaks that trend by allowing print 8.5X11 in size to be created with the utmost quality and detail.
2. FOUR INDIVIDUAL INK TANKS. This means that you can replace individual colors when they run out instead of an entire cartrage. Print some photos that are heavy in red. Simply replace the red and save money by not having to buy an expensive cartrage.
3. This is one FAST printer. I like to print off a lot of pictures at once. My last printer made it so the photos on my memory card (which holds 100 photos) would take almost two hours to be transfered into physical form if the card was full. This printer can pop those suckers out in about 45 -55 minutes (thats around 30 seconds a print). Once again no quality is sacrificed with this increased spead. LOVE IT.
While im ranting about the photographic quality of this printer, I should say something about its generic printing qualities. It is a very good printer and on par with all other modern printers on the market. It does have two very good benefits that I didnt realize until I read the manual.
1. The beauty of two places to fead paper. You can have blank white pages in one slot and photo paper in the other. This means that you can switch from printing documents to photos in litteraly zero seconds.
2. It has built in 2 sided printing. I didnt think much of this until I realized how convenient it was. By printing on both sides of a piece of paper, I cut down on the mess I have at my home office. I had so many useless print out that now only take up one page and are easier to organize.
Basically the printer combines quality with ease of use. Earlier today I took some pictures of a friend. She was leaving soon and wanted a few of these shots to take with her. I was able to directly connect my camera to the printer and print off ten of the best shots. Because of this wonderful printer the whole process from the turning the camera on to take the pictures to printing them out and handing them to my friend took a little over ten minutes. I cant think of another printer in this price range that can beat that.
