My Favorite Sports Movies
May 27 '01 (Updated Jun 18 '01)
The Bottom Line Football are some of the best sports to be made movies out of. Action shots are amazing, and they tie in well with non-sport plot lines.
Sports are the butter on the toast of life. They are the jelly to my peanut butter. When I can't catch a game on tv, why not watch a movie about sports? Here are a few of my favorite sports movies, in no particular order.
The Program. This is the movie about the dark side of college football. The football scenes are awesome and the love stories mixed in are decent too, just in case you have to watch the movie with a date.
Number two is Varsity Blues. I love this movie! A true high school football classic. Every person who has lived in a small, southern town can identify with the struggles of this movie. I am not a big fan of Dawson's Creek, but James Van Der Beek does a superb job in this movie.
Number three on my list is Neccessary Roughness. What? Now, before you think I am crazy, I have two words for you, Kathy Ireland. If you want to find a good sports movie to laugh at, I highly recommend it.
Number four is Any Given Sunday. This movie is a bit long and graphic, but very good. Cameron Diaz and Al Pacino add class to a movie with some of the best football scenes I have ever seen.
Finally, at number five is Rudy. I don't own this movie, but have seen it on tv numerous times, and it almost makes me cry at the end every single time. Its a sports fans dream, to play on their favorite college team and be carried off the field.
