| radosti's Full Review: Dyson DC07 steel / yellow Upright Vacuum |
Well, my 83 year old grandmother's self-propelled Hoover stopped working, so I gave her my beloved Oreck and took her Hoover home to see what was wrong with it. It turned out to be a belt issue, so I replaced it. The vacuum cleaner worked again after that. I asked my grandmom if she wanted her Hoover back, and not surprisingly, she didn't. She was really happy with how light and easy the Oreck is. She was also happy with how much it picked up.
I was now stuck with a Hoover that I frankly hated. It is loud, doesn't pick up nearly enough dust or pet hair. But I guess it worked as well as I would expect any hoover to work. So, I decided to do some research into vacuum cleaners. My first inclination was to go out and get another Oreck. But frankly, I missed the bagless feature. I need immediate reinforcement of how well I clean by seeing exactly how much cat/dog hair is in that chamber. An Oreck, being a bagged vacuum doesn't offer that, unfortunatelly.
So, after reading all about the Dyson, listening to other pet owners rant and rave about the amazing Dyson, I was convinced. My husband was not as easily convinced. He had a problem with the $399.99 pricetag. The Animal Dyson is $100 more, but the only difference was a few extra attachments that I could buy on Ebay easily.
Anyway, we went around and around with this issue for several months. Meanwhile, I noticed that I was cleaning out my sharper image ionic quadra air purifiers almost every day. They made loud protesting noises from being overwhelmed with dust. I vacuumed regularly, but the hoover is no match for my persian rug. It did fine on regular carpet, but who wants a vacuum that only does a part of the job?
I finally stopped in Linens and Things one day. They had a clearance event going on. What do I see but an open-box-item yellow Dyson for 25% off original price!!! That's $100 off the original price. I called my husband and he agreed that at $299.99 it was a good deal. So, I bought it and brought it home.
I vacuumed my persian rug with it first. Oh my God!!! You should have seen the amount of dust and cat hair that the Hoover has been leaving behind. I had to dump the canister prior to vacuuming the rest of my house and that's a scary amount of stuff to collect off your rug. The emptying is so easy too. All you do is push a button to release the canister, carry it outside, position over a trash bag and pull the trigger. Ta da!!! The bottom opens and everything falls out. Swing the bottom shut again and you are done!!! That was fun.
I vacuumed everywhere that day. I had to change the setting from carpet to floor (didn't have to with the Oreck) but that's really easy. I also love how many attachments this Dyson has and the fact that the hose is built in. I can push a button, and the handle becomes the hose extension, a telescoping one at that! So, vacuuming stairs is really easy now as the Dyson stays downstairs and I can reach all the way to the top with the hose.
I must say that with three cats, two personal dogs and a constant stream of foster dogs coming through my house, the Dyson has been an incredible time-saver. Nothing has to be done twice. It does have to be emptied outside due to the dust flying when it empties, but that's a small price to pay for removing all that dust in the first place.
I've also realized that I haven't had to clean my Ionic Breeze Quadra purifiers in a couple of weeks. That's saying quite a bit for the amount of stuff the Dyson picks up.
