Well, I have been dying to get a scanner that scans negatives... so I got very excited when I bought this one! Came home, set up, seemed easy, placed negatives in scanner, read help, (which said to press scan and select negative...) there was no window to select anything, it just scanned it, period. It didn't do anything in any way that would have been different than a photo scan. Read help again, again not matching what is really happening. I did get a windows XP message when I installed that said it was not "logo" verified or something. Opened HP Director software, tried to go that route, nope. I checked settings, options, etc. I did see a drop down that had negatives and slides in it but it was light and couldn't be selected. Called HP, and they told me that my factory warranty was up and I would have to pay $25 to get support! I just bought it TODAY! I guess it's been on the shelves for awhile but that's not my problem. It's new to me, not open item, nothing... So I promptly told them that since I just bought it a few hours ago I am going to pack it up and take it back and that it exactly what I'm going to do. I'm so disappointed in HP I can't begin to tell you. That's just WRONG! Thank god my other HP products haven't been pieces of sh*t also, so far. Can't say I'll ever buy a HP scanner again...in fact, I think I bought a HP scanner before I got my canon canoscan N 650U back in 2000 (which BTW is perfect and I love it, I just wanted to scan negatives). It's all coming back to me now. HP scanners and software are apparently JUNK.. I'm off to get me a canon 4200F looks like! It scans negatives, and I bet it actually really does and I bet if it doesn't I can get free support on the first day I bought it!
