And the verdict is. . .
A few weeks back I received a P&G product "Mr. Clean MagicReach Starter Kit." It was sent to me at no cost, with the understanding that I would use it, and agree to write a review of the product, and provide my honest opinion, regardless of whether I liked or disliked it. What you see is what you get with me, and I rarely hold back my opinions! Thanks by the way to David for giving me a chance to check it out, prior to it being launched in the stores!
What it is babe!:
P&G describes this product as a new and versatile cleaning tool that easily cleans those tough jobs.
What I got in the Starter Kit:
* It came with 3 poles (aluminum)
* It comes with a soft head that is bendable
* It has 2 cleaning pads for your floors
* It comes with 2 tub and shower pads. These can be used for various purposes.
Okay, so you want dimensions. . .:
Cleaning head: 4-3/8" W x 8-3/4" L; Handle (rod): 26"; Extended (rod) handle: 35-1/8" L
Product Height Cleaning Head: 1-3/4"; Cleaning head with locked handle: 5"; Cleaning Head with locked handle and rod: 39"
Product Width Cleaning head: 4-3/8"
Packaging:
It comes packaged in a longish turquoisey box with the studly Mr. Clean guy on the left hand side. The price will be just under $13.00 when it is sold in the retail markets in February 2005, but I'm curious to see what the price of the replacement pads will be. I hope they are reasonable so I can continue using this product.
How to put it togethuh:
The Starter Kit shows you pictures of how to put it all together, and they also explain it in English and Spanish. I wish they also had a Mr. Clean MagicReach Instructions for Dummies (namely tech-pathetic me). The pole is in three parts, and you merely snap them all together. You then snap the pad to the head, and get to work cleaning.

My experience:
Okay, first of all I have had bronchitis off and on for a couple of months now, so I held on to the product until I felt pretty much up to dealing with the instructions, and doing what I thought would be heavy cleaning. I was excited about the opportunity to use this product, but also intimidated as I am not at all savvy with reading/following instructions.
I had someone assist me in putting the poles together, and we still goofed it up. The bottom line on the poles, is that we ended up with the pole parts together but with use of just two out of three of them, so instead of it being 4 feet long, it was about 3. We gave up on it, and I used the pole without as much height as would have been available had we put it together perfectly.
What did I use it on?:
Well, they encourage you to use the MagicReach on everything in your bathroom, but I don't think it should be limited to that. I moistened the pad, and loved the scent of the cleaning solution inside the pads. It was a subtle clean/fresh scent, not overwhelming, but definitely noticeable, and the soap was visible on the places that were cleaned. I changed pads as required, and not only used it in the bathroom, but in the kitchen. Here is where I used it:
* The bathroom and kitchen floor (loved the way I could slide it next to the refrigerator (very narrow area), and next to the stove (narrow space also). In the bathroom it went easily under my sink cabinet and around the toilet.
* I tackled the bathroom tub and the tile, as well as the cabinets.
* I was enjoying the wonderful scent so much, and the ease of using this product I got carried away and even tried to do the ceiling in the bathroom (it was tall enough even with the reduced length of pole). There is a very subtle amount of mildew there from forgetting to open the windows when I use very hot water in the shower or tub.
* In the kitchen I used it on the cabinets, wall next to the stove (splatters).
* I additionally took their suggestion and used one of the pads in my hands to do the sinks.
The company warns against using on marble, unsealed tile, colored grout and other fragile surfaces, and of course suggests you keep away from your kids or pets for safety reasons.
Final thoughts and recommendations:
While I think the instructions could be a little clearer, and perhaps the poles labeled 1, 2, 3 or A, B, C or whatever, the product is wonderful and easy for cleaning. It is so much better than hassling with a mop, whether sponge or cotton mop. I find sponge mops eventually break off, and cotton mops shed. Neither is worth hassling with. With the MagicReach pads you moisten to activate them, and toss them when you are done using them. My rating of this product is 4 stars, so the verdict is I love it! Make the instructions just a touch simpler; easier for klutzes like me, and it would be 5 stars!
Thanks for reading!
