I went from 265 pounds to 175 pounds!

The Bottom Line Ask yourself, does your weight loss plan include exercise?
I was delighted when I found this category “Diet Programs How To’s”. There are so many diets’ advertisements aimed toward consumers promising weight loss. The most convincing advertisements are the ones that accompany a picture showing the weight-loss using a title like mine; “I went from 265 to 175”. The Hollywood Diet, the Grapefruit Diet, the Zone Diet, the 48 Hour Miracle Diet, the Liquid Diet, Macrobiotic Diet, or the new Starvation Diet…These are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to some of the popular ways of battling “El Bulgo”. Most popular fad diets come and go faster than you can say, “Slim Fast.”
Although I can’t list them all there are over a thousand diets that have been used by millions of people attempting to loose weight. We all know why all these diets gain popularity it the media. Most of these diets feed off of the hype and momentum created by endorsement, publicity, and sensational sale adds. Once Hollywood starts buzzing about a new fad-defying diet, everyone jumps on the weight loss bandwagon. Even as I write this opinion, there are a lot of people suffering from anorexia nervosa. As you probably know, this is a disorder associated with obsessive dieting. Its consequences are tragic.
At least one in two Americans are heavier than they want be, quite frankly a lot of the fad diets DO NOT work! People try the latest craze in hopes of finding a miracle in a bottle; I’m not saying you won’t lose weight initially, but eventually the majority of people put it back on. Why? Loosing weight is more than just yo-yo dieting. Fad diets don’t work because people generally return to their old habits that put the weight on in the first place. I could only drink “Slim Fast” for so many weeks, then I got tired of it, I refused to go under the knife, just to get a few pounds cut away, and the diet pill’s are too costly. If you are looking for a quick fix or a miracle pill, then you are searching for a pot of gold at the end of an imaginary rainbow.
Personally, I think we are too critical on ourselves if only we would look on the inside and discover our inner gifts, we would realize that we are more than just calories. We should do a reality check, look at ourselves in the mirror and stop comparing ourselves to the models and actresses that appear in the media. I strongly recommend starting an exercise regime but enjoy yourself, walking, swimming, cleaning the house, washing the car are all ways to release endorphins which boost your sense of well-being.
So how did I go from 265 pounds to 175 pounds? It began with me making a conscious decision to create a new lifestyle for myself. Whether you are in your twenties, thirties, forties, fifties, sixties or seventies it’s never too late to change your lifestyle. It’s not easy to change your lifestyle it’s tough. Temptation is everywhere. It’s not easy to change something than you’ve done for a number of years.
Exercise is key, there is no way around it. Exercise firms you, burns calories, and suppresses your appetite plus it releases endorphins giving you a temporary high. In 1995 I began putting 20 to 30 minutes of exercise into my daily routine, and now as a Fitness Trainer exercise is a part of my daily life. Notice I didn’t say I lost 90 pounds overnight. From 1990 to 1995 after my honorable discharge from the military I rarely exercised, I enjoyed the college lifestyle, leading to years of body fat accumulation and storage.
As a Fitness Trainer I’m not totally against supplements or a diet. Diet to me means good nutrition. Exercise and enthusiasm are key in changing your lifestyle. Unless you incorporate this into your life you will never attain your desired outcome. Remember that it’s not about what I want, it’s about what you want for yourself.
One of my new clients is a stay at home mom (SAHM) raising children, working a home-based business with little time for exercise. When I initially met her she was too busy to work out and didn’t have time to cook special dietary meals. By the time she prepared her children for school, got her husband off to work, cleaned the house and put several hours into her home based business she was pooped.
At her wits end she finally decided to ask me how I lost weight. After we began talking about changing her lifestyle looking at strategic ways to implement exercise, good nutrition and a healthy dose of motivational communication. Today as a result of her decision to make a few changes her she has lost a healthy 20 pounds. Now she is a healthy and happy SAHM plus her husband is delighted also. The entire family has included weekly walks into their lives plus the refridge is filled with fruits and vegetables.
My Tips On Choosing a Weight Loss Plan:
Exercise routines can become boring and difficult to stick to. My favorite activity is walking however when it comes to exercise variety is the spice of life. Summer brings a host of activities that can be incorporated into your daily life, get active and live now. Ask yourself, does your weight loss plan include exercise? What’s the best exercise program for you? Ask your body and listen to it. Only you know which exercises are for you. Start slowly; consult your physician or a fitness trainer before embarking on a new exercise regime. Although I lift weight at the gym to boost my metabolic rate which aids in burning calories, you can lift can goods are books and get similar results.
Healthy nutrition means eating meals that are high in protein, and low in carbohydrates. These meals lower your cholesterol levels and can stimulate the production of ketones which are appetite suppressing molecules that make it easier to lose weight.
Finally, avoid the office vending machine, replace junk food with nutritious snacks, and avoid the midnight snacks! And get support, having support is essentials to effectively losing weight.
