| lorace's Full Review: Downy Wrinkle Releaser All Scents |
When I see a bright sticker on a product, offering a rebate, chances are I will buy it. That's why I bought a bottle of Downy® Wrinkle Releaser, just to get the $2.00 back in the mail.
Truth to tell, though, I wanted to see what it's all about. It comes in an attractive pearly white trigger-top bottle that holds 16 Fl.OZ (500mL) of what Proctor & Gamble claims "Smoothes away Wrinkles."
Anything to make ironing easier would attract me.
How to use this Product
Downy® claims this spray is safe on most products, but they suggest that you test it on materials that could spot, like silk and rayon.
They instruct you (on the bottle) to spray the garment until it's a little damp, then tug and smooth the fabric, and hang it to dry.
They warn you not to spray it in your face, which thought never entered my mind. But if you happen to point it the wrong way, then rinse with water.
That's all there is to it.
Ingredients for those who want to know
Fiber relaxers
Water
Quality control agents
Perfume
Pretty generalized ingredients, I'd say. It does have a faint aroma, very much like Downy® Fabric Softener or their Dryer Sheets.
Don't store this bottle where children can get to it, and don't use it for other purposes.
Why I Really Bought this Product
The truth will out I know. I bought the Downy® Wrinkle Releaser at an appropriate time. I'm usually very good about removing clothes from the dryer as soon as they are done.
But on the fateful day that I purchased this, I knew my husband's shirts were bunched in the bottom of our cold dryer, building up wrinkles. I had been ignoring them, for even though most of them are W&W, I hate getting them out of the dryer when they're wrinkled!
Usually, though, (when I do forget clothes), I merely put a few more minutes on the dry cycle and I'm in business, though I admit I have to press many of them.
Using the Downy® Wrinkle Releaser
I removed all the shirts from the dryer, hung them up on hangers on the hanger bar in my laundry room, and groaned. Ah, yes. This will be a good test, I thought. The wrinkles had settled in.
Using a back and forth motion, I sprayed each of them with the Wrinkle Releaser, smoothing the material out by hand, especially the sleeves and the fronts. The spray comes out in a fine mist.
On some materials, I actually could feel the progress the product was making, sort of like the wrinkles were melting away.
The cotton shirts were slightly more difficult, and I needed to treat them a couple of times because the creases, etc. were much more stubborn. But they did smooth out acceptably. It was easy.
I must say this. These were all casual shirts, not dress shirts. I would never have done dress shirts this way because I'd never get away with it!
But these shirts did turn out well and I hung them in his closet and haven't heard any complaints about them. I doubt anyone could tell they weren't ironed, and the fragrance was barely noticeable.
You can also use this Releasing Agent to make ironing easier for you. On places that steam doesn't seem to touch, a squirt of Downy® Wrinkle Releaser on the problem area does a good job. I used it on some blouses I ironed at a later date and appreciated it.
Recommendations
As an all-around-use-it-every-wash-day sort of product, I'd say, it would be pretty expensive. I don't feel it is intended to replace your ironing.
In my example above, it wouldn't have been much harder to have pressed the wrinkles out than it was to spray them out. I did like not having to set up the ironing board and heat the iron, though.
For people who travel, however, and live pretty much out of a suitcase, this would be a fantastic product to take along with you. I certainly would recommend it for that, and I will take a bottle with me on any trips we might make.
Downy® Wrinkle Releaser is a pleasant product to use, the bottle is light, comfortable and recyclable. The sprayer works great, the aroma is clean, and it does what it says it will do.
It removes wrinkles. For that reason, I will keep a bottle on hand to straighten out pesky wrinkled materials and to help me when I iron.
So if you find your clothes or other household goods often need a pick-me-up, or if you are going to travel, buy some! It's great to have on hand.

Now if only it worked on complexions, would that be great?
Thanks for reading my review. I hope it's helped you.
