I am not domestic. I think a totally clean house is the sign of a mind about to snap. It scares me. However, some things have recently entered my home which have made cleaning just a wee bit easier, and even kind of fun at times. One such item is this here Swiffer WetJet Starter Kit.
Historically, one of my least favorite things to do has been to mop. Partly this has to do with sheer laziness on my part, partially it's due to the major pain in my derrier to have to get a bucket of water and lug it from room to room then keep running back to some sink or other to squeeze out the water from the mop itself.. argh what a pain that was! It plays hell with Lupus/RA, lemme tell ya.
Well, those days are over. Oh yes. I got me a Swiffer WetJet now and any little spills are quickly cleaned up with like zero effort on my part.
The WetJet comes in a coupla pieces that are very easy to snap together. Mainly you're putting the handle on the things. Takes seconds, literally. Then you pop in a bottle of their handy-dandy cleaning solution, insert the 4 AA batteries, and attach one of the mop-cloth thingies to the bottom and off you go! The assembled WetJet is light as can be yet tough enough to even get up the spaghetti sauce that Tom inevitably splatters when he sneaks into my forbidden kitchen...
For dried-on crap, there is a rough edge on the side of the mop head to scrub it away, and the solution on the mop works wonders with those as well. What makes this unit so damn cool is that you simply press the button on the handle and out streams that solution for you. Let it sit a minute and then swoosh away! No wringing out icky old sponges here, folks! Squirt. Swoosh. Done. Prop it in the corner til the next time ya need it.
This bottle of solution has lasted me over a month so far and is still going strong. I did buy an extra bottle of the Multipurpose solution to have on hand though. It ran me $3.49 at peapod.com, and may be even cheaper elsewhere. The initial kit was $19.99 there. They also have a solution for wood floors, and an anti-bacterial solution. That's a deal right there, folks. I believe the replacement cloths run around $5 for 16 of them, but I may be looking at the wrong ones... I have the regular Swiffer Sweeper thingy too which I use dry for a quick once-over in between using the Stick Vac so I tend to get a bit confused on which cloth thingies to buy for which mop thingy. Hey, I told ya I wasn't a domestic goddess!
The main thing is, this WetJet has solved sooo many problems for me. It's very convenient, light weight, inexpensive, and easy to use. What more could I ask for? Five stars.
