ruggierifus's Full Review: 2005 Chrysler Town & Country
For the price, the best minivan on the market. If you want to spend another $10,000, get a Honda Odessey.
There are a lot of plusses. The interior of the car is really what sold me. We looked at the Dodge Caravan and it was monochromatic plastic inside. The interior of the T & C is classy. Two tone dash with a splash of wood grain (that actually could pass as wood grain, and not that plastic looking wood-plastic)
Here is my gripe, though. At 14,000 miles, I was up for my first year inspection. I thought, "This is great. Cough up 50 bucks and get it back, no problems." WRONG. They call and tell me I need new brake pads. I tell them, "You have got to be kidding me. Brake pads should last twice as long." Needless to say, I told them to shove it, took it home and did the job myself (I have done them 100 times). I called the Dealership I bought it from and told them what a crock this is, and they were less than sympathetic. As the mechanic put it, "The factory pads are not really high quality, and neither is the rotor for that matter."
So, the pads I bought were Bendex (the only ones anyone sells around here). $44.00. My other car's pads cost 22.00 (both have a warrantee where I can buy the next set free).
I put them on, and SQUEEEEEEEKKKKK! I do some more researching and discover that this pad is made of material that is too strong and is tearing into my rotor. So, I can either try and live with the ear-piercing sqeal, or buy rotors. So, I bought rotors.
Moral of the story. Be ready to cough up some serious dough with these things. The factory warrantee only covers them for 12,000 ,miles, so if they are getting thin,I would find a steep hill and roll down it, brakes engaged the whole way. :-)
Really, if you can't do the job yourself, then plan on forking over $300 for brakes and rotors within the first 1-1/2 years.
Other than that, I really do love the car.
