Ebay has been a savior to me. It has been a great source of income that works for me. Instead of getting a second job, I have created one that fits within my time, my budget and my life. Once you master the ins and outs of Ebay, you too will find this to the beginning steps to establishing a side business that you see immediate results from!
I started Ebay a little over 2 months ago. I know, not a lot of time to be an official Ebayer...but that is the beauty of Ebay. I have collected my blue star just 2 months into this Ebay process-and have made over $900. I plan to expand my mini "empire" and love the ease of running my own business.
Ebay works for you if you work the system. Many people write stories of bogus items and sales gone bad, but Ebay does give you the tools to measure what you encounter. Now, this is not to say the occasional mishap will not happen in the online world, but the tools available minimize your risk.
Here are my tips for newbies to make big bucks on Ebay:
1. Start slow at the beginning. No need to rush the process. Get to know the Ebay site. Read about feedback and it's importance. Read through the Community section for what turns sellers on and off. Once you understand what makes Ebay tick, you'll find it is easier to sell your items.
2. Research shipping costs. I cannot stress this enough. I learned the hard way, under charging for shipping and then spending a ton at the Post Office. Be fair on shipping, but ALWAYS cover your costs so you can show ROI. The Post Office will send as many free boxes as you want to your house. Know when to use a Priority one price box versus ground shipping. This is a very important part of you being successful on Ebay.
3. Be good about feedback. Everyone wants to gain the Enay respect, so that they can be trusted. If you buy, leave feedback. If you sell, even more important. And for more than just establishing yourself in the community. Many people go back to their feedback page to remember who they bought from-and could buy again.
4. Your junk could be someone else's treasure. Seriously. Before dropping that bag at the thrift store as a donation, look the same items up online and see if they are selling, what they are selling for, and then decide to sell it yourself!
5. I assign a budget to my selling. I make a conscious effort to keep up with Ebay's trends...sure, everyone wants a Louis Vuitton bag or a Tiffany necklace. We all don't have those things to sell. Try looking up "womens lot" or "juniors lot". Piles of clothing will sell! Look into the trendy clothing, hard to find books, even vinyl records can go for big bucks on Ebay. Try to keep sizes and styles together.
Once I establish my budget, there are some great thrift stores I visit on their best sales day. For example, I sold a pair of Guess jeans that I bought for .99 at a thrift store for $17. That is a pretty good profit, don;t you think? If you know the styles and sizes people want, you'll make money for sure.
6. Start your auction so it ends on Saturday or Sunday, and keep in mind the folks on Pacific Time. People will buy on weekdays, but traditionally more people are online at Ebay on the weekends. Plus, people just got paid and have money to spare.
7. Pay Pal is the best way to keep track. I started off with just money orders and cashiers checks. But for the .20 Pay Pal will charge you for a transaction, you get insurance, you get immediate payment most times, and if you set up a bank account you can transfer the money directly to that bank account. Saves the trip to the mailbox, the trip to the bank, and eliminates the chance of not getting paid.
I am going to continue on, and my next goal is to eventually make $1500 additional a month. That would cover all my bills and my paychecks can just sit in the bank. Or better yet, maybe I'll take that trip to Cancun-heck, Ebay will still be selling for me while I am gone!
Good luck!
