Staples.com is my first choice for Office Supplies because I find their prices to be competitive and they offer free shipping on orders over $50. The items are typically delivered the next day so it makes more sense to have my large boxes of envelopes and supplies delivered to my door then going out to fetch them myself.
In addition to office supplies I often order things like laptops, printers, camera, and software because I find the price is among the lowest and delivery is always fast and returns are easy.
Before I place my order I always check the online coupon sites to see if I can find an online coupon to use with my order. I usually find a code for $20 off of a large purchase.
My latest order
I decided to make some office supply purchases so I placed my items in the cart and proceeded to checkout. I placed my order on Friday afternoon so did not really expect my order to be received until Monday but was pleasantly surprised that the order was processed and was actually delivered on Monday.
After placing my order I immediately received an e-mail indicating that the order was being processed and gave information such as what I ordered, how much it cost, the tracking information, and type of delivery. There was a link to initiate door delivery if you want the items left at the porch if you are unable to be present to sign.
Saturday I received an e-mail indicating one of my items were out of stock and it was not projected to be back in stock for more than 5 days so it was automatically canceled from my order and I was not billed for it. I had the option to call the number listed and reorder if desired. I did not feel like waiting so I did not re-order the item. My credit card was not charged for the backordered item.
My items were scheduled for a Monday delivery. My box of supplies came by Staples Courier and my electronics box came later that day by UPS. I was impressed with speed of delivery considering I ordered it so late on Friday afternoon.
Selection
Staples.com is an excellent place to get your pens, paper, and desk supplies but they offer a lot more than that online. Normally anything that is sold in the store is also sold online but the selection is actually bigger online because not all stores carry the same thing especially on more expensive items.
Staples Rewards
Staples Rewards is another unique program that is designed to reward frequent shoppers. Membership is free to join and sign-up can easily be accomplished from the home page. Some of the benefits are reward checks, free delivery regardless of the amount, rewards in the copy ad print center; upgrade benefits, and Staples Bonus Rewards. Membership also gives you way to see your purchase history and the points that you have accumulated.
Teachers also have a special reward program that can be accessed through the website.
My Favorites
My Favorites is handy for reorders. Some items like paper need to be purchased frequently. Rather than looking through the whole list of products every time you can go to My Favorites for easy reordering. The list can be divided by regular and less frequent purchases to save even more time.
Email?
I am on Staple's email list so occasionally I get sneak peaks of what will be on sale next. The emails often have a savings coupon or something interesting.
Easy Online Rebates!
My recent order had a rebate so I filed my rebate online through the website and it was so much easier than the traditional way of finding receipts and clipping bar codes. To file a rebate all you have to do is go to their rebate site and enter the order number from your invoice and the item number off of the invoice (which can be found online if you have lost it) and click process and there's nothing more to it. You can check the status of the request online. It does still take the normal 4-6 weeks for processing for the rebate to be processed.
Using the Web
The website is easy to navigate. When I sign into the site I have the option to check the status of orders that I have placed and to look at orders that I have received in the past. I have my favorite items marked which makes reordering a breeze.
There are tabs at the top of the page for departments and categories listed on each page. If you click an item such as envelopes the page gives you the option to search by size or style.
If you do not have the time to browse the selections on the internet you could add a free catalog to your order or pick one up at the store. You can click order by catalog number and just enter the catalog numbers to place the order online.
Staples Brand
I have found many things that I order have a Staples generic. I have been pleased with the ones that I have tried. One of the reasons that I tried the Staples brand is because they do have a 100% guarantee.
Technology
I have bough several cameras and laptops from Staples and have been very pleased with the transaction. The laptops can be found under the technology tab. Laptops are often on sale at Staples.com and I ca not say enough good things about the new rebate system. You'll also notice that most of them are deliverable in just one day and their return policy is better than other stores.
Return Policy
Staples.com has a fair return policy. Returns can be made by calling the 800 number or at the brick and mortar store. General office supplies can be returned at any time for a full refund. Furniture and technology have a different policy, check the website for details.
Overall
I have been shopping on Staples.com for six years and keep going back. I am happy to see that the new changes such as the online rebates are beneficial to me and truly make my shopping experience easier.
I like the prices and the policies the best. Shopping and comparing products is a little tedious.
The only reason I do not give the site 5 stars is because online ordering usually takes me a lot longer than I would like perhaps because the items are not displayed by pictures. I do not think the search does what I need it to do. It displays too many results to weed through.
