I had used expedia.com frequently for research on fares, hotels, and cars, but I had never purchased through them until yesterday. Now I am really impressed!
My wife and I have been planning a trip to Reno (her hometown and where we met and were married) to visit her family. Unfortunately because of my schedule at work and my lack of vacation time, we are traveling separately on this trip. She is going to stay longer than me.
She booked her flight through hotwire.com. I haven't found a place to write about this site yet, but if you haven't tried it, you need to! Anyway, that's another review.
She got round trip tickets to Reno for $227 with one stop each way. Now, I was going to go out on the same flight with her but come back earlier. I started researching fares online and went to expedia.com, americanairlines.com (that's the airline she was booked on), and aaa.com. I looked one night and was happy to see that I could get a flight for $249.50 round trip and it would fit with my schedule. Not bad! I found this deal on expedia and on the American Airlines site.
Unfortunately, I was awaiting time off approval from work, which I got the next day. I wasn't worried about fares changing because it is still over a month before our departure date. I went back to the sites and was I shocked!
According to americanairlines.com the best fare I could get was still $249.50, but I had to take a red eye and wouldn't get back until 10:00 am. I'm scheduled to see patients at 8:45 am, so that wouldn't work! I found the flight I wanted to get on, but the fare was now listed at about $450! Ouch!
So, I went to expedia.com and searched for the same flights. They had the same $249.50 priced listed for the flights I wanted at the times I wanted. This is a $200 savings compared to the American Airlines site, and it's on an American plane! However, there was a problem.
My wife and I still aren't very trustworthy about using credit cards on the Internet. I couldn't find a number anywhere to call expedia, so we finally decided to bite the bullet and use it online. For $200 savings, we'd be crazy not to! (Note: many of our friends would say we were crazy anyway.
So I went through the process and I was given an itinerary number before they asked for my credit card. Then, a screen stated I could call 1-800-EXPEDIA if I did not feel comfortable using my card online. Perfect! I called the number where I rapidly (after a short trip through a phone tree) spoke with an agent named Terri. Terri was very pleasant, helpful, and efficient. My reservation was made, my credit card charged, and I was a happy man! While we were waiting for her to get the reservation confirmed we had a very pleasant conversation about our spouses and her wedding at Lake Tahoe. She was very nice. She even gave me pointers on how my wife and I can get our seats together even though they weren't booked together.
I think expedia.com was easy to use, didn't make me use my credit card online, and had incredibly nice customer service. I know I will be back again to use this service!
I know this was a step away from my medical epinions, but hopefully it will help someone who is trying to book a flight.
I have listed all of my medical epinions on my profile page for easy access. If you are looking for a specific topic, please look there!
In the hopes of bringing together good writers and topics, I have started a webring of people who enjoy writing medical epinions. Hopefully, this will help others find medical epinions when they
are looking for specific authors or topics. See my profile page for details, then click on the "ring hub" link. Thanks!
Thank you for reading. and good luck in your travels
