Curt's Action & Adventure Favorites List
Jul 27 '01
The Bottom Line Bring on the action and adventure!!!
There are no movies I enjoy more than action & adventure movies. The more explosions, special effects, and stuff Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis blow up, the better! One thing is for sure, I will never get tired of any of these movies!
10. Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country
This installment of the Star Trek series of movies has one of the most spectacular battle scenes I have ever seen, at the end of the movie. A Klingon ship that can fire while cloaked is hunting the Enterprise. Most excellent. I just couldn’t exclude this one from my list.
9. Blade
This is the coolest vampire movie ever. Wesley Snipes plays a half-vampire who hunts other vampires in his quest to rid the earth of them, and avenging the murder of his mother. The movie contains some of the most stunning sword-fights I have ever seen which won it a spot on my list.
8. The Mummy
It always makes me happy when a horror/adventure movie does well. Even though it wasn’t very scary, the story was excellent and the special effects were stunning! And who would have ever thought Brendan Fraser would make such an awesome adventure star!?!
7. Terminator II
Two robots from the future are sent back in time, one to kill a boy and the other to protect him. This was the perfect movie for Arnold Schwarzenegger since he has few lines, and blows up a ton of stuff. Coming in 2002 - Terminator III: Rise Of The Machines. Oh my.
6. Jurassic Park
Although I have not seen the latest release yet, I have no doubt the first will always stand as the best of the series. The whole concept of creating an amusement prehistoric park was awesome! With the story & stunning dinosaur effects, is it any wonder this movie is 5th on the all time box office list making $357 million?
5. Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade
My list would not be complete without including an installment of this hugely successful adventure series starring Harrison Ford! My favorite of the trilogy, Steven Spielberg created a masterpiece of action and special effects. I sure hope he makes a 4th installment some day.
4. Armageddon
I was so excited about seeing this movie being released, my friend and I were at the theater two hours early for the first showing of it. And it was absolutely spectacular with great special effects. My favorite scene is when the space station blows up and the Russian cosmonaut says "That's why I told you - touch nothing... but nooo... you bunch of cowboys!!" Priceless.
3. Die Hard With A Vengeance
Bruce Willis swore he would never make a third Die Hard movie unless the right script came along, and they sure found a winner. Very few times do you see a series of movies where one is actually better than the original. But the non-stop pace, action, and an impressive story makes this one the best in the series.
2. True Lies
Can any movie possibly go wrong that puts Arnold Schwarzenegger in a fighter jet?!? The special effects were awesome and the story was very entertaining with Tom Arnold as Schwarzenegger’s sidekick! The scene where Tom says "Maybe she's sleepy" cracks me up every time! True Lies 2 is coming in 2002! I can’t wait!
1. The Matrix
Arguably the best sci-fi/action movie ever made, The Matrix raised the bar for spectacular and stunning special effects. The story was also fascinating and the cast was excellent. I can only hope the sequels will be able to live up to the standard set by the first.
Bonus - The Fifth Element
Being that it is my favorite movie of all time, I put this movie on the top of just about any list. An exciting story, amazing special effects, and Bruce Willis blows stuff up. It really doesn't get much better than watching Bruce put his "negotiating skills" to work.
