Adding Bounce to the Laundry (and other uses!)

I once upon a time used liquid fabric softener to my laundry until fabric softener sheets were introduced. They are easy to use and convenient … lighter, too, compared to a bottle of liquid. My fabric sheet softener of choice is Bounce Dryer Sheets in the Outdoor Fresh Scent.
Description
Bounce Dryer Sheets come in a brightly colored orange and yellow cardboard box. The box reminds me of spring and summer days, which goes with the Outdoor Fresh Scent of these particular Bounce sheets.
Each sheet measures 6.4” x 9” (162 mm x 228 mm). The sheets are bright white and folded into thirds. Opening the box, the fresh scent is immediately evident but not overpowering. The box is marked with a drawing of a “Scent Level” gauge, which shows a scale from 0 – 4 (zero being no scent, and 4 the most fragrant).
These dryer sheets come in a variety of scents, too: Outdoor Fresh (2 on the sent meter), Spring Awakening (3 on the meter), Summer Orchard (4 on the meter), Fresh Linen (1 on the meter), and Bounce Free (no scent – zero on the meter).
The Bounce box is marked in three languages: English, French and Spanish. These sheets also have the Good Housekeeping seal of approval.
Directions for Use
These sheets are easy to use. Throw the wet laundry into the dryer and throw one Bounce sheet on top of the clothes. Then close the dryer door and start the machine. When the laundry has finished drying, remove the used dryer sheet. Each dryer sheet can only be used once in the dryer.
The box says that these manufacturers have approved Bounce to use in their dryers: Amana, General Electric, Inqlis, Kenmore, Maytag, Whirlpool.
My Experiences
I enjoy the Outdoor Fresh Scent of these dryer sheets. I’m not one who likes heavy scents or perfumed items. My nose is sensitive, and I’m prone to seasonal allergies. This scent is noticeable without making me sneeze. The clothes come out of the dryer static-free with a light fragrance. The clothes feel soft, too … even the towels. These sheets also don’t leave any residue on fabrics.
I use these Bounce dryer sheets in my General Electric dryer. The sheets have not harmed the dryer interior. The sheets are tough, too, and do not shred or disintegrate in the dryer. They always come out whole.
Since these sheets come in a light-weight cardboard box, they are easy to carry. No more lugging heavy bottles of fabric softener. I don’t have to worry about adding too little or too much softener to the laundry. All I need is one Bounce sheet for normal loads. The manufacturer suggests using two Bounce sheets for heavy loads. One sheet suits my needs, and if the load is small, I tear a sheet in half.
The sheets have a strange feel to them. They are coated with dry fabric softener that releases in the heat of the dryer. I have to say that I don’t care to touch the sheets when they are fresh from the box. I grab a corner of the sheet and toss it into the dryer. When the dryer load is finished drying, the Bounce sheet feels soft and more like a fabric since the fabric softener has been released during the drying cycle.
Sometimes it is a hunt to find the Bounce dryer sheet among the clothes, towels or linens in the dryer. At times that rascally Bounce sheet hides itself in shirt arms, the body of garments, or buries itself among the bed linen. There are times when I don’t find the fabric softener sheet until I’m wearing it! But this doesn’t happen often. And only once did I find the fabric softener sheet in my shirt sleeve while at work. Didn’t even know it was there until I noticed an unusual shape in the fabric of my sleeve. I smelled extra fresh that day!
I find that the Outdoor Fresh Scent lasts for days. I can smell the scent on my clothes, though it grows lighter with each day. Day one and two are the strongest. After that, the scent is noticeably lighter.
Other Uses
Even though the directions on the box say to discard the Bounce dryer sheets after they have been used, I have found other uses for them. I take the used dryer sheets, which still have some scent clinging to them, and place them in clothes drawers to keep clothes smelling fresh. It’s my version of a sachet.
A friend at work swears that Bounce dryer sheets work to keep the mice out of her basement. She places them around the basement perimeter and has had no mice problems. She used to have a lot of rodent problems before using Bounce. I’ve never tried this trick since (knock wood!) I don’t have mice in the house.
Another friend told me that she carries a new Bounce dryer sheet when working in the garden. Mosquitoes, flies and insects don’t bother her when she does this.
These dryer sheets can also be used to sweeten the smell of odor-challenged areas such as gym bags. After I pull used dryer sheets out of the clothes, I often place them in the trash cans around the house. The sheets release a light fragrant scent to freshen rooms. I even keep a few in my sleeping bag to keep it smelling nice during storage.
When traveling, these dryer sheets are handy to tuck away. They not only keep clothes smelling fresh, but they help reduce the odor of dirty clothes. Bounce, in a pinch, can also eliminate static cling on clothing (such as on dry static-filled days). Just rub a sheet over the static-cling area to banish the problem.
Ingredients & Cautions
The ingredients of Bounce with the Outdoor Fresh Scent are: biodegradable cationic softeners and perfume.
The manufacturer cautions not to use Bounce on children’s sleepwear or garments that are labeled “flame resistant”. Also, keep Bounce out of reach of toddlers and pets. Bounce should not be taken internally. (Guess the manufacturer has to cover every possibility!)

My local grocery store sells a 120-count package of Bounce in the Outdoor Fresh Scent for $6.99. Drugstore.com sells these same dryer sheets for $6.69.
Summary
Bounce dryer sheets make my laundry day a bit easier. Just pull a dryer sheet from the box and throw it into the dryer. Simple! The Outdoor Fresh Scent is enjoyable, too. My clothes come out of the dryer static-free and soft. I can even reuse the used dryer sheets as air fresheners around the house and as sachets inside clothes drawers. This is a product that more than pays for itself.
