| KMINER's Full Review: Clorox Clean-Up |
I got a sample bottle of this in the mail, at a time when we were cleaning up our old house and looking to move. I was really curious about how a product with bleach would perform in the home, and this just seemed like perfect timing. So Clorox Clean-Up came into our home just when I needed it.
I wasn't really sure what the product was or how to use, so I made sure I read the back of the packaging and referred to the website before I started. I was excited to read that this product stated it would disinfect an area in only 30 seconds - I was quickly on my way to clean!
From the site:
"The power of bleach in a spray
Clorox Clean-Up Cleaner with Bleach is a spray cleaner that cleans and disinfects with the power of bleach. It removes tough stains, grease and dirt and then gets rid of the germs you can't see. It leaves your house smelling clean and fresh, and sparkling with the purest clean.
Disinfects and kills 99.9% of bacteria in 30 seconds, for a cleaner, healthier home.
Use:
Use Clorox Clean-Up Cleaner with Bleach on hard, non-porous surfaces such as kitchen sinks, counters, refrigerators, appliances, bathroom tubs, toilets, fiberglass, showers, floors and tiles. Spray, wipe and rinse clean."
It stated on the packaging this product was safe to use in both kitchens and bathrooms, and that's the main 2 areas where I concentrated its use. I first took Clorox Clean-Up into my bathroom - lots of white. I sprayed it on the toilet tank, the outer bowl, the seat cover, and all over the sink. I then took a wet sponge and scrubbed -a nice clean surface was left. Nice. This product came in an easy to use plastic spray bottle, with Spray and Stream features, as well as an Off section. The bottle sprayed nicely and was easy to use.
But then I started to notice the smell - how could you not? I really strong bleach smell. Well that made sense to me, since this product clearly stated it contained bleach ... but it was really strong, and my bathroom small and enclosed. I quickly removed myself from the room and shut the door. I checked on the room for the remaining evening, and each time I was assaulted by a strong bleach odor - I know I was quite pregnant at the time, but the odor was killing me. I couldn't imagine subjecting my family to using this now clean, but very bleach smelling bathroom, and I made them use another bathroom for the rest of the evening.
Unrelenting I tried Clorox Clean-Up in a more roomy, open kitchen on the countertops and flat stovetop. Again, a nice clean surface, and a horrible lingering odor. I found myself then avoiding the rooms I had used Clorox Clean-Up in, and spraying air fresheners and lighting candles and waiting for the bleach smell to disappear.
I then decided I didn't care how well this product cleaned , I literally could not stand to have it in my house! There are enough other products on the market that clean effectively and don't leave me wanting to leave my house! I've used other Clorox products successfully, and so I determined it was the "bleach" factor that I couldn't handle.
Clorox Clean-Up may "do the job" but at the cost of such an abrasive smell and avoiding all areas that have been cleaned with it, I just don't find it worth it. Not having the heart to toss it out, I left it in the cleaning cupboard for the new owners when we moved.
