When my oldest started wearing contact lenses instead of glasses I stressed the importance of keeping up with his daily cleaning routine for them. I didnt want him to get an infection of have sore eyes from wearing them for too long a period of time. That also means that Im left with the task of ordering his replacement lenses and sending them to him while hes away at school. Since I order most of my contacts online [I used to get them in Mexico until we moved] I started getting his from Lens Discounters because they had the best price, a great reputation and their shipping wasnt outrageous. He was extremely lucky to get the same prescription for his eyes so he can - like me - get away with ordering one box at a time. Since he spends so much time studying there are weeks that go by when he doesnt wear his contacts but when he joined the hockey team, that all changed. Now he wears them for practice as well as for games so he doesnt have to worry about breaking his glasses and honestly - have you ever seen a hockey player wearing glasses on the ice?
He ultimately went with the Optima FW lenses from Bausch & Lomb; Id worn these in the past and never had any major problems with them so when he said he wanted to try them out I was more than willing to order him a box. Lens Discounters had the best price for them but I had a hard time ordering just one box so I picked up two for him. At $16.00 a box, it was more than affordable and even if he only wore then a couple of times and pitched them it would be worth it. The site carries lenses from Bausch & Lomb, CooperVision, Johnson & Johnson, Ciba and Proclear BioCompatables to name a few - use the drop down box on the main page to see all the manufacturers and brands that they carry. For the most part the prices are extremely reasonable and it is hard to beat them when you factor in their shipping fees. Some sites charge you an arm and a leg for shipping but at lens Discounters, its very reasonable.
Payment Options
You can pay for your order with MasterCard, Visa, American Express or the Discover Card. If this isnt an option for you, call their toll free customer service line to see if they will accept a check or money order. So far Ive used my debit MasterCard for purchases and havent had any problems getting it approved or with billing; you will need to provide your CCV [credit card verification] number when you place an order, this is the number stamped on the back of your credit or debit card to prevent credit card fraud. You arent billed until your order is ready to ship and you should get an email with all the information in it when your order is received and / or processed.

Shipping Fees
Orders ship via the USPS or Federal Express unless you make other arrangements. First Class ships at $3.95 and Priority $5.95 but if you need them faster you can opt for FedEx Standard $9.95 or Express for $13.95. To be honest, orders do ship fast so unless you are completely stuck for lenses your best bet is to use the Priority Mail option, even orders that go out First Class arrive quickly so like I said, unless you are in a real bind, stick with the USPS option. The do offer free shipping for larger orders, the last time I checked it was orders over $125.00 but that may have changed since the last time I ordered from them. Custom orders do take a little longer but if there is going to be a delay, you will get an email about it.
Return Policy
The site gives you a thirty day return policy on unopened packages but there is a restocking fee for some returns. If they shipping you the incorrect product or prescription, you can return them without a restocking fee to receive the correct product or strength. If you do get a defective lens they will replace them at no additional charge, from time to time you might get a lens that sticks or is ripped, if this is the case, contact customer service to get a mailer sent to you to return the lens to get a replacement one. It is extremely important to look at the boxes when you receive them to make sure you got exactly what you ordered. Do not open any of the boxes until you have made sure the strength, base curve and diameter are correct - once a box is open you will have a hell of a hard time getting an exchange.
The Bottom Line
When I finally figure out which lenses I want to go with I will definately check the prices at this site to see what they are going for. Ordering is easy and if you have never placed an order for contact lenses online, they will walk you through the process. You will need a prescription to order lenses from the site so make sure you know your strength, base curve and diameter for each eye before you start adding things to your online shopping cart. Customer service is pretty quick to answer emails and shipping is fast. They accept orders for the United States, Canada and over seas but I would rather order them and have them shipped from their Buffalo location [they also have a shipping center in Canada] just to make sure everything is perfect with the order. There is no sense in having it shipped to him over seas then having him ship them back. So far I am pleased with the service I have received and will be ordering my sons lenses [and possibly mine] from them in the future.
As always, thanks for the read!
