I also thought Wyckhama was played by Orlando Bloom! Fine review here, capturing everything perfectly.

Glad you enjoyed it - though I thought Julia Sawalia as Lydia was brilliant in the BBC version, the girl who played her in this would have been very annoying if they'd focused on her as much! :-D

I got to see it two days before it is out here so I was thrilled. I love Colin as Darcy and he will NEVER be replaced to me, but this Darcy was not to be ignored.
I liked that they could fit the best parts into the two hours and leave out more details about stupid Lydia:)
I think it was fabulous, but I did think that the makeup was on a little thick for a period piece.
Definitely worthwhile - I will buy it!

I saw a preview for this last night, so I was quick to notice your review. Good job! When this comes out in Australia I'll be sure to give it a go.

I like how you always bother to put links in your reviews -- very helpful! Keep up the stellar work.

Hi Guys and Gals, and welcome to CaptainD Replies Time:

Ryan - hmm, I've never actually tried it all in one sitting! This is more a fun-sized version in comparison, but still pretty god. :-D

Metalluk - I hope you enjoy it! You're welcome for the mention, of course.

Beth - I agree, nothng will ever top the BBC version, but this is a very different sort of adaptation of the novel. Judi Dench is brilliant though she doesn't get all that much screen time.

Mary - A lot of characters and situations had to be skimmed to make it all fit, but the overall effect is still pleasing and fairly authentic to the book.

Sharon - it annoyed me in the first few minutes of the film but then I got used to it. It did fit with the overall tone of the film, I think.

Theeye - I can't believe we got one first again, and so much sooner! But then I suppose it is quintessentially British... (I'll forigve your confession, I guess...)

Thanks all for commenting! :-D

like me, adores the BBC version is reassuring. I'll definitely see this one when it makes it over to our side of the pond.

(Confession time: despite its various appalling infidelities to the original source material, I also love the Olivier/Garson version.)

but agree with you that nothing will top that BBC version. I didn't quite buy Keira Knightley as Eliza Bennett - too pretty and giggly - but overall it was well acted.

"Do We Really Need Another Version of Pride & Prejudice?"

My sentiments exactly! If you say it's worth paying the overpriced fees at the theatre, then I suppose I can convince myself to go. It just seems like a lot to cram into 2-hours.

interesting and worth watching, though I don't think anything will ever top the BBC version either. I credit *that* movie for getting me back to Austen's books, and that's a wonderful thing!

Still, your review of this new updated version makes me intrigued. I look forward to seeing it if for no other reason than seeing Judy Dench play Lady Catherine!

I really like Keira Knightley so this is one that I will probably give a chance. Also, my former roommate has the BBC version on DVD, and watched it over and over with friends, so I have seen it around 3 to 5 times all the way through. It's a tough movie in one sitting simply because it is so long, but it is a well made one. I am interested in seeing how they can consolidate the length of the mini-series into one feature film, and whether it holds a candle to the original.

Thanks for the review denoting that it is worth giving a try :)
