Pros: Built like a brick. You'll need a hammer to break it.
Cons: Color is addictive.
The Bottom Line: An exceptionally good printer, at a great price. A bit bulky, but a cinch to use - you can't do much better.

| jll3sonex's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Color LaserJet 4500 Printer |
There's only two drawbacks to this printer.
1.) It's not QUITE foolproof. I maintain computers and printers in a building with about 10 of these. Once, a secretary put in a toner cartridge wrong (she had to force it to get it in wrong) but that was a five-minute fix. That's been about the only problem I've had with one, outside of normal consumable replacements like cartridges and imaging drums.
2.) It's an HP laser printer, which means it's going to be working long after you want to justify updating to the newest and latest technology. (In fact, it'll likely be working past 2010, based on some of the HP Laserjet IIs that are still out there.)
HP makes excellent printers - with only a few exceptions. This one's a jewel. You'll almost never have a problem with print quality, as long as you keep up with the consumables and don't accidentally shove the printer off the table onto the floor. The paper bins hold enough for decent sized print jobs, the cost of the consumables isn't too horrific for a color printer, the thing is very fast for a color laser printer.
The control-panel menus are wonderful. It's easy to print out the configuration and extended menu maps - and it'll probably be necessary since there's a lot of options that can be modified. But once it's set - it's set.
What's not to like about it? It IS a bit noisy - but not terribly so. It does chew up a fair amount of desktop space, so you might want to get it it's own table. It'll take two people to lift it up onto that table. It probably will stay put in a tornado, however.
Overall, if you're looking for a color laser printer and want what I consider the best, this is what I'd suggest.
