When I returned to college a couple of years ago, I couldn't fathom how some book companies could get away with selling a mere 300 page paperback textbook for upwards of 150 bucks; hallway robbery! I have found that most online stores do offer better deals on textbooks than, say, my campus bookstore, but sometimes 5 dollars off retail just isn't enough. I stumbled upon TextbookX.com when searching for a good deal on a book for my business class.
About this store:
TextbookX is an online store that specializes in selling all types of new and used books; from textbooks all the way to car repair manuals. In addition to books, TextBookX Online Store also features movies, video games, and much more. To purchase a product from TextBookX, you must first become a member; requires you to fill out a short personal information form and acquire a password. Also, if you become a member with TextbookX.com you can sell your used or new book on the site free of charge, however a small commission fee is charged when your book sells. Note: TextbookX only accepts cards with Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express logos.

TextBookX has made navigating around their site very easy. TextbookX.com offers only four main product categories; books, DVDs, video games, and magazines. If you have any problems finding a product at TextbookX.com you can always use their reliable search engine that will almost always pull up results. Another positive attribute to TextBookX’s Online Store is that it has very few advertisements and offers a clutter free environment, this all equates to very fast loading web pages. TextbookX also offers detailed product descriptions on most books in stock.
Prices:
The price tags on most books at TextBookX vary anywhere from slightly better than average to excellent. On most books you can count on an average savings of 10-15% under retail, however in some cases you can find deals where savings exceed 50%, especially if you choose to buy new books from private sellers. I have purchased only four textbooks (in new condition) from TextbookX.com and have already saved over 100 dollars versus retail and about 50 dollars more than other online bookstores i.e. Barnes and Noble's Online Store...
Selection:
The selection on textbooks at TextbookX.com is excellent; I have never entered in a book title in their search engine and received negative results. The books listed have also always been in stock; this hasn't been the case with many online bookstores, i.e. eCampus.com. As for DVDs and video games, TextbookX.com also offers a decent selection.
Shipping Charges:
Not only did I find a great deal on my textbooks, but shipping chargers are also quite affordable. In fact, purchases over 50 bucks get totally free base shipping (5-16 days). For items under 50 bucks, TextBookX Online Store has a standard shipping rate of a mere $2.99 for base shipping, $5.78 for UPS Ground, $9.78 for 2nd day, and $17.78 for Overnight (plus an additional 99 cents per book). My advice: If you have a few extra days to spare just go with the standard shipping and save yourself some cash.
Customer Service:
My only major gripe with TextbookX.com would its shoddy customer service. TextBookX Online Store isn't exactly the most popular online store in the world, so I don't expect to wait 10 minutes every time I call to get a questioned answered. Luckily I have only needed to call this store twice, but when calling their 1-800 number I had to wait nearly 15 minutes to talk with a live representative each time. Waiting this amount of time to talk with a live rep. is unacceptable.
Arrival:
Since I knew what classes I would be taking well in advance to the start of the school year, I chose to go with the free 5-16 day shipping. I have received all of my textbooks within the 5-16 day window period; ten days being the longest time I had to wait for a textbook to arrive. All of my textbooks arrived thoughtfully packaged and for the most part, in perfect condition.
Return Policy:
TextBookX offers a fair return policy. For all books, DVDs, and video games, TextBookX Online Store provides its customers a healthy 45 days to return the product. Note: On non-damaged products, TextBookX does not pay back shipping costs and will charge a 10-15% restocking fee.
Final Verdict:
Although I am a bit disappointed with TextBookX’s customer service department, TextbookX.com has saved me quite a bit of cash on textbooks; all without too much hassle. In conclusion, I recommend this online store to anyone who is on the market for new or used textbooks. Next semester I will definitely be shopping here again.
