This setup works great in a small room, like an office at home or work. Why? Because the left/right speakers are small and unobtrusive on a desktop, while the sub hides well under a desk or table. At the same time, with a location such as an office you have control over placement of the speakers and also you know you're going to be in a specific location most of the time (behind the desk) so you can get the balance correct. Just as a note, I got these speakers to use with an Ipod, though I would probably connect them up to a computer if I were listening to music from my computer.
The sound quality is good, I am comparing it to the Sennheiser HD497 headphones I used before these, the headphones are better of course but these speakers are just fine for most things. I have heard several other speaker systems for the ipod, and these are easily the best for the $. I do not expect that the speakers would sound as good in a large room or a environment where the listeners will be moving around a lot (somewhat true of any speakers though).
I never turn the volume all the way up, but I get good response at middle volume levels, whether playing Beethoven or Sepultura. The method of setting the volume is a bit odd, 2 touch sensitive buttons on the right speaker front.
The only problem with the set is the location of the power button, which is on the back of the sub. This can make turning on and off awkward, if the sub is somewhere like under a desk. The look of the speakers is kind of odd, like little Darth Vader helmets. I find that I like it though, they don't look like speakers.
