I used US Cellular for approx 2-1/2 years. I had no problem for the first 2 years with my old nokia. When my first contact was up, i upgraded with another line to a LG flip. That is when the problems started. Where i am located in wisconsin is about 30 miles south of verizon territory. Well, when the CDMA phones came out, which my LG was one of them, i only had the local coverage cause I did not go north, i only went south towards madison. But every month i got my bill i recieved almost $100.00 in extra charges for "roaming". US Cellular triangulated my position when i was on one of these "roaming" calls and figured out that i was still in their territory. They apologized and said that if it happened they would take it off my bill. I said fine, normally i go in to the office to pay my bill anyways, what is 5 minutes more. Well i was wrong. About 3 months later, I was in the store paying my bill. The roaming charges had gotten up to $250 bucks. I showed them the letter that the customer service center had sent me and the store said, sorry, we can no longer take the charge off. I said,"why, there has never been a problem before??" the guy behind the counter said that they had repaired the problem and i was most likely in wausau at the time. So, i said fine and went home and called customer service. Once again they triangulated my position and found that i was once again in SP. well within their territory. I asked if they had repaired the problem of the calls bouncing off the wausau tower. They said there was no problem, there was nothing that they could do and more cutomers besides myself were having the problems. I asked that they call the store and let them know that so they were not lying to their customers. She said that she was sorry and she would credit my bill and remove the roaming minutes. Fine and dandy
the next month
I went in the store like i had so many months before. I asked can you adjust my bill. They said this time that it was my problem and i would have to pay it. I asked them to pull my past history and told them to look that it was approved by the customer service in madison that the roaming can be taken off becuase of the phone i have. At this point they asked for the phone so i could get a lesser model, i told them that i did not want another phone, i wanted this one. I told the gentelman that it is not my problem that it is this powerful. He said that i would have to call the customer service dept. I said fine.
I called down to them to get the same message that my account had too many edits on it and would no loger be changed to reflect credit of roaming. I asked why you have been doing this now for me and other customers for 5-6 months. "We are not responsible if you leave the coverage area" I told her to look in the notes of my file and tell her that they had found my position and it was well within US Cellular territory. She said sorry, there is nothing that we can do. So, i asked to talk to her supervisor. It was a gentelman and he said the same thing. At this time i had almost 400 in roaming charges. They refused to triangulate the call, we are not allowed to do this anymore. I told them that i would not be paying my bill and would be filing with the better business bureau. They said,"go ahead, we dont care" where will that get you.
They then hung up on me.
At that time i said i was done with US Cellular. I called the BBB and they said that there was several complaints along the same lines as what i had told them in regards to this error in billing and calling. Needless to say, i still have the balance outstanding and will never pay it. The BBB said that is the right thing to do, you did not get the service that you expected and were treated rudely.
