| dcchick1425's Full Review: GE Advantium SCA1000D Microwave Oven |
I purchased my Advantium about a year and a half ago - probably the best thing I put in my renovated kitchen. I live in a one-bedroom condo and do a lot of cooking and entertaining.
I use the Advantium mostly for its microwave and regular oven function. The oven function is awesome as it allows me an almost "double oven" function without using up all the space.
While it is more expensive than your typical microwave, I think the cost of it is well worth it. You can do your roasted potatoes, vegetables or whatever other smaller dishes while your large items (turkey, roast, etc.) occupy your regular oven (and you're not having to gauge time or temperature that typically comes with sharing that space).
I don't use the speedcook function nearly as much as I like. Part of the reason is because the pre-selected menu is limited to what the manufacturers have included as are the recipes in the book that came with the product. I'm afraid to "experiment" to try my own settings to cook something not included in the books or menu because I don't want to ruin a good piece of meat or poultry (and to give up a healthy dinner and settle for take-out).
If there were one thing I would recommend to GE is to create a recipe sharing site for Advantium 120 owners so that no one has to recreate the wheel. They have recipes on the site, but they are the same as the pre-programmed and ones included in the cookbook with the product. If we all could have something like an "all recipes" for the Advantium, it would be helpful.
