Pros: The best TV money can buy.
Cons: If you don't go with the best package, you may as well stay with cable.
The Bottom Line: Great for sports and movie lovers. Also has a good amount of children's channels. Basically the best TV money can buy right now.

| chillu's Full Review: Hughes Networks D2532 DIRECTV |
I've had my Hughes Direct TV system now for about two years. I purchased it off ubid.com for $9 + $30 shipping, I know, great deal.
Anyway, I installed it myself, as I'm pretty handy and have been in TV bliss ever since. Let me explain why....
VS. Digital Cable
In my opinion digital cable is the biggest rip-off since the wooden nickel. They basically put a wannabe 'digital' menu at the bottom of the screen, give you a few new channels and this new huge cable box, RUN NO NEW WIRES and charge you more calling it digital cable, please. My friends I've seen it, it’s no comparison to the real deal. It's like an Acura/Lexus/Infiniti, they fool many into thinking it's comparable to a Mercedes or BMW, but really they can't hold either cars oil filter.
PICTURE QUALITY
In a word, outstanding. Basically, any visual flaws are the result of your cheap television, not the broadcast medium. Buy a Sony TV for maximum viewing pleasure.
FEATURES
God, Where do I start? You can search for any movie/event. You can see the ALL times an event will play, days in advance & schedule to view. You can search by category i.e. boxing, suspense movie and countless other options, its really impressive.
If you are into sports, this is a must have. At any given time of the day there will be countless boxing, baseball, tennis etc. programs on. I need to quit my job so I can watch Direct TV full time!
I went with best package with 30 premium movie channels. I rarely watch movies but my wife loves it. I also sprung for the NFL & NBA packages, which ran, about $130 each for the year, this was for me :) and worth every cent I may add. I can never say there is nothing to watch. Sadly I miss most of the games, as I'm usually doing other stuff like being on the computer, but its there if I want it!
If you are into movies or sports, Direct TV is for you.
I have a 7-yr. old son; the fact that Direct TV has about 8 kid’s channels is great. It has about 2 or 3 Nickelodeon channels, and a few other similar channels. It’s great for the kiddies too!
OK, OK ... THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT !! PACKAGES!!!!!!
Just as with cable television, there are a variety of programming packages you can choose. The prices range from about $20 - $80+ per month.
I feel if you are gonna go through the trouble of getting on your roof risking life & limb to install the dish, or pay someone too, YOU MAY AS WELL GO FOR THE GUSTO and get the premium package. Besides if you're gonna be cheap, the keep your cable.
Installation includes the following fun chores: adjusting the dish perfectly (which is a major pain in the butt), drill through the exterior of your home, run yards of wire all around and inside your home.
If you’re not a handyman, I would not recommend doing it yourself.
SUMMARY
If you’re looking for maximum television viewing pleasure, you can’t go wrong. If you are looking for a bargain on programming, cable may your best bet.
