| self41's Full Review: Pine-Sol Orange Energy All Purpose Cleaner |
From Pine Action To Pine-Sol
I scoured the supermarket shelves in the parishes of Kingston, St. Andrew, and Portmore in St.Catherine, in search of Pine Action for my Epinions' review, and found Pine-Sol instead. The converse was also true; I searched the Epinions.com database for Pine Action and found Pine-Sol.
Quotation=Elaine Foster Life is about order not coincidence nor chaos: 06-09-28, for I had long replaced Pine Action with the appreciative flora scent of Pine-Sol Lavender.
Historically, Pine Action was a local product packaged as a green liquid in a pint sized glass bottle; this was what I say my late mother use around our nomadic homes. My conversion to Pine-Sol Lavender occurred at about the same time as my mother's passing.
It has occurred to me that my extreme allergic reaction to the overpowering scent of Pine Action was a reaction of psychological nature, rather than a physiological impact. That fresh pine scent in a bottle had now become a repugnant odor that was strong enough to make me shudder.
Pine-Sol Ingredients
The percentage of Pine Oil in all Pine-Sol brands inclusive of the Pine-Sol Orange Energy is approximately 15%; the other ingredients total 85%. The instructions for dilution are always crystal clear, even if the prints are sometimes shrouded in secrecy.
The selection of Pine-Sol Lavender was based on the availability, scent, ingredients; best care practise for storage, disposal, environmental health, and safety guidelines.
Available Pine-Sol Brands In Jamaica
Pine-Sol Orange Energy is packaged as an orange colored liquid with an orange floral scent. Pine-Sol Lavenderhas still retained its heavenly scent and is characterized as a lilac-blue liquid.
Pine-Sol Sparkling Wave has captured the freshness of the outdoor scent in a bottle and has a typical ocean blue color. Pine-Sol Lemon Fresh is a translucent light yellow liquid with a characteristic lemon scent with a sharp tinge at the end. I can only describe Pine-Sol Originalas an amber color with an un-particular odor.
The Pine-Sol import brands are generally shelved at 28 Fl. Oz (1.75 Pint) or 828 ml. All products along the brand line are packaged in plastic yellow bottles with yellow caps. Variations are along the color, scent of the products, and product labeling.
Pine-Sol Ingredients
Generally, the active ingredients are the bio-degradable cleaning agents as detergents, and the ionic surfactants.
Review http://www.worldwise.com/biodegradable.html
The ionic surfactants are the alkyl alcohol ethoxylates, and sodium xylene sulphonate which are patented by Chlorox Company. As the name implies, the ionic surfactants utilize the principles of adhesion, and/or cohesion so that the dirt actually separates out, and falls to the bottom of the bucket, as claimed in the advertisement...
Pine-Sol Sparkling wave is useful as a disinfectant agent against Salmonella spp. and Staphylococcus aureus. Kindly note that genetic hybridization is a continuous process; with hardier, more resistant strains to antibiotics, and eventually cleaning solvents. Therefore, consumers will always have to be on the look out for industry changes in product ingredients.
Best Care Practise
The recycle symbol is stamped on all the Pine-Sol brands. If there are no recycling facilities in one's country, then the best care practise for storage, and disposal is recommended.
In Jamaica, the collection of polyethylene terephthalate
(PET), of which the Pine-Sol plastic bottles would be categorized, is still within the infancy of a transitory inner city community of Riverton Meadows - alias Dungle.
The materials that make up 50% minimum post consumer plastic implies a higher level of sanitary land filling operation for developed, and post industrialized countries.
It also implies a need for those countries including the United States of America (U.S.A), to have a more serious look at their waste reduction, or minimization efforts at source rather than at consumption to land filling...
Health & Safety Precautions
As an eye irritant, the observance of the safety precaution to keep out of the way of children is dependent on each family unit as a whole, and their understanding of the governing safety principles.
The first aid direction of flushing the eyes with water is optimal with bottled water in a culture that is at the mercy of the vagaries of the domestic water supply, and sanitation; as well as disruptions during the hurricane season.
The month of November, officially marks the end of the hurricane season 2006 in Jamaica, and we have not had a major storm, nor hurricane, nor natural disaster that is worthy of mention.
In the event of poisoning report to the Poison Control Centre at the University Hospital of the West Indies (U.H.W.I.), Accident and Emergency Unit... A check with the hospital to ascertain the number proved to be futile.
Hmmmm! I was somewhat disturbed at the sudden un-availablity of the emergency number. For I was a part of a core team of persons that helped to formulate that system for U.H.W.I., during my tenure with the multi-national oil company of the Royal Dutch Shell/Shell International United Kingdom.
As a part of the phase out of its agro-chemicals and pesticides operations in Jamaica in the early 1990s, the Poison Control Centre was instituted at the University hospital by the Shell Company of the West Indies.
However, I was pleasantly surprised that the neighbouring University of Technology, Jamaica (UTECH), housed the Caribbean Poison Information Network (CARPIN).
Continuing with my transcribing..., in the event of poisoning call CARPIN at the following numbers:

Pricing
My business is not one of retail pricing. However in order to aid the process, I visited several well known supermarkets, and mega stores within Kingston & St. Andrew, Portmore, and Spanish Town.
From the time of preparation of this article on 2006/03/10, I've concluded that the Sovereign Centre supermarket in Liguanea (St. Andrew) provided a useful index for pricing.
At any given time all the Pine-Sol brands are shelved and priced at J$232.65 plus general consumption tax (GCT 15%). I must admit that our GCT is ridiculously high for a developing country!
With daily fluctuations in the foreign exchange rate, and associated stock market, the conversion was at the time of visit to my commercial Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS). The exchange selling rate on 2006/11/13 was J$66.65 = US$1.00, therefore each Pine-Sol brand was indexed at US$3.49.
Rating
My rating of the Pine-Sol brand to the 4.5 star is based on the stewardship of Chlorox company in the international community as a whole. The rating of 4.5 is weighed in a balance of either 4 or 5.
A future 5 star is dependent on the industry's contribution towards the (formal/informal) awareness, and education of developing countries to meet their abilities to not only separate their waste at point source, but also to minimize waste production at all levels.
The development of sanitary land filling operation, and recycling facilities towards the best care practice of domestic, and industrial solid waste management of the Pine-Sol product brand line.....
