Make Your Own Pumpkin Patch

Oct 09 '01

The Bottom Line Using some children's paints and a few materials found in most households you can create your own indoor pumpkin patch for Halloween.

This is a great project to do with young toddlers before or after a visit to a local pumpkin patch or after reading the book "Apples and Pumpkins" by Anne Rockwell.

Materials:

paper lunch bags
twist ties
newspaper
orange and green tempera paint
brushes
paint containers (empty margarine containers work fine)
green yarn

1. Have the children tear the newspaper into scraps and use them to stuff their paper lunch bags.

2. Secure each bag with a twist tie, leaving about 1 inch of the bag gathered at the top for a stem.

3. Have the children paint the bottom part of their bags orange and the gathered part at the top green to create pumpkins with stems.

4. When the pumpkins have dried, string them all together with a green yarn "vine" to make a pumpkin patch.
