| premsi's Full Review: Accuphase E-406V Integrated Stereo Amplifier |
If you're in the market for a high end integrated amplifier you must check out the Accuphase 406V. I play the the piano and this unit is by far the most musical and transparent sounding integrated amplifier on the market.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Accuphase here are a few choice tidbits:
Accuphase is one of the highest quality manufacturers of high end equipment in the world. Their top of the line SACD player/amp unit retails at $28,000 USD. Accuphase is Japanese company that produces only Class A components.
Compared with other integrated amps:
A). vs Krell 300i - The Krell is powerful and puts you in the middle of the concert hall. Accuphase is far smoother and much more transparent. It puts you in the front row.
B). vs Jeff Rowland Concentra - Accuphase doesn't look as industrial looking as the Concentra; whereas the Concentra looks sleek, Accuphase looks like a Rolex, very functional and indestructible. Accuphase will outperform the Concentra in virtually all areas, not to mention that you have to let the Concentra run all day long since it doesn't have an ON/OFF switch.
There may be other integrated amps such as the YBA or the Sim Audio which I haven't had the chance to audition but I feel secure that they are not in the same league as the Accuphase.
The Accuphase sound itself is a very natural, uncolored sound. Some listeners might find it analytical; the other extreme would be a McIntosh Amp which has a very distinctive McIntosh sound - great for easy listening, but not a good choice for say, classical or chamber music.
Matching this integrated with anything less than other first class components would be nonsensical.
I have the E406v matched with a Sony SCD1, Wilson Audio CUBII speakers and Transparent Audio Ultra Balanced Interconnects and Cables. I can assure you that if you have a 13 ft by 16 ft room this will producing jaw dropping reactions from all listeners. The clarity, soundstaging, and transparency with an SACD will knockout the most jaded listeners.
