| joylisa's Full Review: General Reviews of AT&T Customer Service |
I have been using cellular phones for about 5 years now. I started with Cellular One, switched to Sprint PCS, next to Verizon and finally to AT&T. I'm never changing! Cellular One (now Cingular) and Sprint PCS have to be the worst companies in the industry. Both companies were deceitful in their billing practices. Cellular One had a very small coverage area and outrageous roaming fees. I dropped calls all the time and had very poor voice quality. Their customer service is only opened business hours which is just unacceptable. Anytime I called their customer service I waited at least 30 minutes only to be treated rudely and sarcastically. This company just didn't want my business. When I moved to Sprint I was very excited to because of their advertisements. Their digital coverage was along major highways only, when I traveled into heavily populated suburban areas I was charged for Analog roaming. I thought that their maps were deceiving and confusing. The signal was never very strong on my phone and it always sounded as if I were under water. I wouldn't receive most voice mails until a day or 2 later, sometimes not at all. I tried to call their customer care department because of their confusing billing and waited 45 minutes only to be hung up on by someone. I immediately called back and spoke to one of the most rudest women in my life. She proceeded to berate me and implied that I was an idiot for not being able to understand their billing. She had a hard time explaining it herself. I was not under contract with them so I'll told her exactly what she could do with my phone and my business! I still get bills from them even though I paid with my credit card all the bills to date. They're just trying to rip me off. So, off to Verizon I go. I talked the salesman's ear off, asking questions to make sure I clearly understood the plan and the phone features. I had purchased a web-enabled phone and was told that I don't use any minutes to use this feature. Well, I get my first bill and low and behold $147.00 worth of web charges. I went back to the man I purchased it from and showed him the bill and the notes I had taken when I first bought the phone. He got me a credit for the $147 but said that I do use my plan minutes when I'm on the web. I was over their insufficient 14 day return policy, so I was stuck. I continued with Verizon's service for the rest of the year. I was going into roam constantly when I was clearly inside the home coverage area. I called their customer service numerous times (not too bad of a hold time) only to be told different things every time. One said it was my phone, others said there was a problem in that area, etc. My year was a up, I was not satisfied and had been around the block at this point. Grudgingly I go to AT&T to get a phone. WOW! Everything in their brochure is clear to understand and their local coverage was quadruple what any of the other 3 companies offered. They are the only company that offers FREE and UNLIMITED internet use from the phone. That's right, no per minute/per month charge at all ever! They have a full 30 day trial period because they are so confident about their service, boy they should be. Going into AT&T I knew it would be difficult to please me because of my past experiences, but AT&T went above and beyond my expectations. I contacted their customer care department on a few occasions and they answered in 15 seconds! That's too good. Every time I called thereafter it was no longer that 1 minute to talk with the most knowledgeable, professional and caring individuals. Their contract allows you to switch plans at any time ( Cingular and Verizon don't do that) and if I needed to cancel (which I never will!) It's only $10 a month for any month remaining. With only 1 year contracts they're not trying to rope you in they're trying to please you, and they will. I have had very few dropped calls and can use other companies towers and not pay anyone anything for it. AT&T is definitely the best, I've had them all, I should know. Don't make the mistakes I did, go to AT&T first!
