10 Best "Chick-Flicks"

Nov 09 '01

The Bottom Line Somebody usually dies. This isn't always true, but it gets my vote! There always needs to be an element of romance as well.

I love a good drama-especially when I need the Kleenex and I don't cry easily! These may not contain many "classics" but I think a good drama is timeless, even when they're newer. These are the best tearjerkers I've ever seen (although there are many more I could list):

10. Phenomenon
John Travolta, need I say more? A wonderful movie for all ages, I know even men who liked this one. Very good storyline and acting, makes you truly appreciate life and your friends.

9. Far and Away
What really stood out to me was the true connection that showed through between Cruise and Kidman. They work so well in all their movies, but their chemistry really made this film!

8. Love Affair
Another real-life couple who obviously didn't need to do a lot of acting! Annette Bening and Warren Beatty were great, and I was holding my breath hoping he would figure out why she didn't meet him at the Empire State Building.

7. My Life
Michael Keaton, a soon to be father videotapes his life to his unborn child. He's dying of cancer but eventually gets to see his child born then goes through a bit of melodramatic suffering then dies. Very moving.

6. Sweet November
Another cancer movie, this time it's Charlize Theron. I love her as an actress, and she's very convincing as a woman wanting only short-term relationships until she dies...until she meets "the one". Highly romantic and fun.

5. Titanic
Duh! Of course it's on the list, but it's not higher simply because although he was great in this movie, I usually can not stand Leonardo DiCaprio. I watch this one over and over and over!

4. Meet Joe Black
Brad Pitt as death! Here to get Anthony Hopkins, but he falls in love with his daughter. Very romantic, a good date movie. Great to cuddle up with on a rainy day.

3. Terms of Endearment
Okay, another cancer movie, but this one is a true classic with great acting, romance, drama, death, and everything in between.

2. Steel Magnolias
Who wouldn't have this in their top 10? Just look at all the actors who did amazing performances of Southern women in a small town who are friends through everything and anything.

1. Beaches
Touching with a flair of extravagance. Bette Midler in what I think is her best role. Two girls, friends since childhood, although both from completely different upbringings that show nothing can come between them. I loved how Bette goes to care for Barbara Hershey's character so she can spend her last days with her best friend. I cry every time!
