| njchicaa's Full Review: Febreze Air Effects |
I am not big on spray air fresheners. I have always been more of a plug-in or light-the-candle kind of girl. Anyway, when the boyfriend and I moved in together, he expected me to have some kind of air freshener to be used whenever he was finished in there. I handed him the can of boring old Lysol that I used for the cat's litterboxes but that didn't last long. There was some kind of silent tug-of-war over the Lysol so I decided to just buy him his stupid can of air freshener for the bathroom. I spent quite awhile looking at the selection in the store. I never really liked the Glade sprays when I had experienced them in other people's homes. The smell was perfumey and cheap, in my opinion, so I really didn't want to buy one of them. My eye was quickly drawn to the Febreze Air Effects display. I had used the regular Febreze in the past and found it to be easy and effective. The snazzy cans looked nice, too. Okay, SOLD, I grabbed a can of their Summer & Splash scent and made a spot for it in the bathroom cabinet.
Product Description
From company website:
Febreze Air Effects doesnt just mix with odors in the air. It eliminates them, leaving the air feeling clean and fresh. And you can choose from a selection of delightfully clean scents that will freshen your home.
Packaging
This product is sold in a 9.7 ounce aluminum can. The top is a plastic spray nozzle with a "trigger" dispenser. The modern-looking top and the minimal but pretty graphics make for an attractive package. It definitely caught my eye when it was sitting on the shelf! You can recycle this can, too, which is always a bonus for the Earth.
Directions For Use
From can: Hold trigger down and spray the air in a sweeping motion throughout the entire room. For a noticeably fresh home, spray all the rooms in your home.
I don't spray Febreze Air Effects throughout my entire bathroom. I have a parrot who is incredibly sensitive to chemicals and fragrances. I just spray for about 5 seconds back and forth in the general toilet area. (and then keep the bathroom door shut and exhaust fan on for an hour or so) You need to stand way back from the area you are spraying or you will feel the spray "raining" down on you and find yourself walking around smelling awfully fresh and clean.
Ingredients
The listing on the can is incredibly vague:
Odor eliminator, water, fragrance, non-flammable natureal propellant, quality control ingredients. No CFC's and Contains No Phosphates.
Scent
As I mentioned earlier, the first Febreze Air Effects fragrance I purchased was Summer & Splash. The picture on the can shows melons and sunshine so I was expecting a fruity scent. The company website has this to say about the scent: Picture the delicious aroma of a fresh bowl of fruit: the sweet combination of summer fruits spreading a pleasant perfume through the air. Enjoy this fresh summer scene in your home every day of the year! It has a hint of melon but smells a bit more "perfumey" than I had expected. In any case, I did find the fragrance pleasant and have made many repeat purchases.
The boyfriend grabbed a 3-pack of their Meadows & Rain spray at BJ's the other day. It is a "clean" and light scent, though it also has a perfume component. Febreze describes it as: Picture an early summer morning: the dew on the ground, the crisp, refreshing, early morning aroma of the outdoors. Like a clean breeze for your home, Meadows & Rain will make your whole house feel as fresh, airy and clean as the first morning dew. I don't particularly love it, but maybe after USING THE THREE CANS HE BOUGHT I will change my opinion.
Cost and Availability
I paid about $3 for a can of this air freshener. The suggested retail price is $3.49. One can lasts many months in my home so, to me, the price is very reasonable.
I bought Febreze Air Effects at Target. I have seen it for sale also at WalMart, drug stores, and grocery stores. It is listed on drugstore.com too for those who can't find it in their area.
But Is It Any Good?
Yes! Febreze Air Effects is a powerful air freshening spray that eliminates unpleasant odors for several hours. Make sure you like the fragrance because it will be sticking around for quite awhile when you use it! The trigger-spray is very easy to use and the packaging is pretty whether you hide it in a cabinet or leave it on a shelf.
The only drawback to this spray, in my opinion, is that it truly does spray out droplets of liquid. (possibly because they don't use CFCs) If you spray the product around where you are standing, it will rain down on you. I have to stand back and spray it far away from my body so I don't walk around smelling like air-freshener.
I really like using Febreze Air Effects and this is coming to you from someone who was very anti-air freshener for most of her life. I don't use it throughout my whole home but it does a great job in my bathroom when I need it to.
