Pros: decent effects, 3D effect, easy installation
Cons: outdated and has an ISA slot interface.
The Bottom Line: It used to be a good sound card with many options at the time. It is better than many $50 sound cards today.

| bobmp3_99's Full Review: Creative Sound Blaster AWE64 Value |
About 3 years ago, I got my fist computer from my dad. Originally it was a 133mhz, 32mb RAM, 2GB HD, computer with some decent speakers. But my dad wasn't happy with the performnance of it so he went to a computer shop to have a new board and processor installed into it. The new board had 1 agp, 3 pci, and 3 isa slots. One of both the pci and isa slots were bridged so that it gave you more options once you ran out of slots for hardware. The board was great for the time being a soltek socket 7. The best thing was the 300mhz K6-2 processor. But the worst thing in the system was the old sound card.
We need a new sound card
So my dad tagged me along with him for a trip to Staples which was the closest place to go to that sold sound cards. We looked at the selection and my dad eventually picked out the Sound Blaster AWE64 Value. Since my dad had already made his wallet quite light with the new top tech motherboard and processor, he settled for the Value version. Being only 12 years old for less than a month, I had limited computer knowledge except for playing games such as Sim City 2000 and MS Flight Sim 95, I didn't know much about hardware. But I knew that the new card would be better and that my computer would be prepared for the best and newest games such as Shogo.
Installation
When we got home, my dad opened the case and pulled the old sound card out. I would learn how to install hardware cards that day. He told me that I should always handle hardware by the edges like CD's. Well bla bla bla and the case was back on. The computer boots up. New hardware found wizard thing comes up and he just had to insert the driver CD and install the drivers and other neat stuff.
Performance
This sound card worked great for Shogo. Shogo was my first strategy, mission, and shooting game that I had and the music sounded great on it. I still use this same exact sound card today and I play my favorite gun game Counter-Strike with it. (see my C-S review too!). All the bangs sound clear and crisp and I don't have any complaints yet. It has a good midi sound directory with the software. I dont listen to midi s much so I don't care about it but it is nice.
This card is good for listening to your favorite MP3s, "as I've been doing so way long before any one I knew did. I found this sound card great for listening to MP3s with the bass and treble controls. My speakers were pretty good for the time and if the music didn't provide enough UMMPH for the speakers, I would then tweak those controls to make it sound better.
Finale
That is all I have to say, but this is a good sound card for it's price. I am glad that it still works great today.
