Pros: The price was 2130 with all the bells and whistles. I mean you get everything
Cons: Financing was a little high and old laptop bags are to small
The Bottom Line: If you are in the market for a laptop and want something for work, play, and music(MIDI...) this system is great. Especially for people in the military on ships.

| marcus2's Full Review: Dell Inspiron 8000 Series |
Recently I bought a Dell inspiron 8000 with a 700 pentium 3. I at first thought that buying a laptop would be a little bit unnecessary but after receiving it I came to realize that this was one of the better buys that I have ever made. I can't imagine how I ever did with out one before. I heard all the horror stories about the DVD players not working well or that they hang up your computer. But I truly put that to the test when I got it. I slapped in a DVD movie, opened the internet, MS Word, and explorer and my movies paused for a second while they opened, then continued playing. I also got the CD Writer with it so that I can copy onto CD's form the DVD drive and that seemed to work just fine. The display was outstanding, I expected it to be a bit cheesy but I was truly impressed. For the money of this CPU I was very happy especially after shopping around those other places like HP, Gateway and so on. The problem with places like that are the prices for one; but second it's hard to get exactly what you want. If you've ever bought a computer or laptop from a retailer, the first thing you do is think about upgrades whether it be video or software. There at Dell it was one stop shopping and you can do it all on line without a salesman edging you for stuff you don't care to much for.
Some of the stats are: 14.1 inch display
32mb ATI video card
10gig Hard Drive
CDRW Drive
DVD Drive
Floppy Drive
56k 10/30 modem/Cable
700mhz Pentium 3
Extra battery
Now the only thing that left me wanting more was the sound on the laptop. It was pretty low even playing full blast. But the overall computing is great.
Some things to watch out for are, be careful when placing a call into dell. If they can't find your information when you applied for credit online then you end up going through all the questions again and you'll get two accounts. Make sure you tell the sales person that you want to place the order on line if that's what you want. Otherwise you may get two CPU's and get charged for both. Try haggling with the salesman on the phone. When I got the second CPU they offered to let me keep the second one at a lower price. Besides these companies are hurting for business. Also do some research and figure out what you need ask friends that already own a laptop about their likes and dislikes. Don't get what's known as techno stress (gotta have the best). Save your box too because if you decide it was an impulse buy or that you just simply do not like it you got thirty days to send it back.
