Pros: Eliminates nasty odors...you know the kind.
Cons: The spray feels like a fine rain, rather than a mist.
The Bottom Line: This product rids the air of bad odors, instead of masking them.

| ballardduke14's Full Review: Febreze Air Effects |
As a college freshman out on my own for the first time, I'm quickly discovering the truth behind the statement that the "only free thing in life is advice." As I was getting ready to leave for college, I was bombarded by advice. From boys to money to sleep to studying, you name it, I was given advice on it. I was told what to bring, what to leave, when to do the dishes, and even told to clean my room. And yet, with all that advice floating around, no one told me about the little things. You know, the things that are always around that we take for granted, like air freshener.
I didn't realize that you actually have to buy stuff like that. I thought it just magically appeared whenever you needed it. Boy was I wrong, and I have to admit I learned the hard way. The first time I walked into the bathroom after my roommate walked out I was faced with a hard fact of life: no matter how many times you open the cupboard under the sink, air freshener will NOT appear.
After learning that there is no such thing as a good fairy who magically keeps the house stocked with essentials, I grudgingly made my way to the local supermarket to buy air freshener. I thought it would be simple. How hard could it be? All you gotta do is walk in there, grab a can of smelly stuff, and you're good to go. Wrong again. I didn't realize the enormity of the simple decision to buy some smelly stuff. There were rows and rows of cans, all claiming to be the best. And the worst part was, I couldn't remember for the life of me what brand my mom buys. I wasn't about to call home just to ask what air freshener my mom buys, so I made the second most important decision of my life (second only to deciding where to go to college).
I recognized the name Febreze, and remembered that Febreze is also a fabric freshener. I love the other Febreze products (and the sleek, modern design of the can looks pretty cool) so I thought I'd give Febreze Air Effects a try. I marched right into the bathroom as soon as I got back to my apartment and gave it a good spray. Again, hard lesson learned. I didn't compress the trigger on the can all the way, so the "spray" came out as "rain". And I used a little too much, so the smell was pretty strong at first. I chose the scent Linen & Sky, which made our bathroom smell more like laundry detergent for a while, but that wasn't all bad.
At first I was afraid that the Febreze would fade and our bathroom would revert to its same old smelly self. Not so. While the Febreze did fade, it left the air smelling fresh. Since then I've discovered the other Febreze scents:
Meadows & Rain
Blossoms & Breeze
Spring & Renewal
Summer & Splash
Citrus & Light
Mint & Refresh
I've also found that Febreze not only works in the bathroom, but around the garbage can, in my truck, the living room, anywhere there is chance that the air could smell "funny". I know many people who use this product in their homes who have children and/or pets, my parents and grandparents included (by accident I discovered that Febreze IS the brand my mom buys). However, the can does contain a warning label that states: "Keep out of reach of children. Do not spray towards face." So just make sure a responsible person uses the air freshener to freshen the air, and a little person doesn't find the product and uses it to freshen his/her face, and everything will be all right.
As for the ingredients, Febreze Air Effects includes: "Odor eliminator, water, fragrance, non-flammable natural propellant, quality control ingredients. No CFC's and Contains No Phosphates." In fact, the can tells us twice (in English, and in Spanish) that the product contains No CFC's, which deplete the ozone layer.
Through trial and error, I've since learned that a little bit goes a long way. Not only when it comes to Febreze Air Effects, but in life as well. And that advice, my friend, is free.
