| speedracer120's Full Review: TDK veloCD ReWriter 12/10/32 |
Well honestly the only reason I bought this burners is because Buy.com had it on as the special of the day. I obtained my very own 12X/10X/32X for a low low cost of only $120. Honestly, where can you beat that price? I've been waiting for a decent 12X recorder for around $100, and I was rewarded with my patience. Plus, it had 10X rewrite speeds, which is obviously better that 8X rewrite, which most 12X burners have. Who really cares about 32X read speed, most of us (should) have a separate CD-Rom drive anyways.
Installation is a breeze. For the faint of heart, the drive even comes with an idiot proof installation video and poster. Open up your computer plug in the right connectors, boot up and voila, you have yourself a new drive. Software installation doesn't even take a minute. Reboot, and your ready to tick off some record companies.
To test the On-The-Fly, disc to disc copying option in Nero, I took out my copy of Metallica's S&M album from a few years back. The speed results were disappointing because the recorder (master) and the source CD drive (slave) were both on the same IDE channel (secondary). It took about 14 minutes. However, burning a variety files (about 600MB) on my hard drives (on the primary channel) and from my brother's drive over the network took only 6 minutes writing at 12X.
I have yet to test the re-write speed because I have yet to find the need and time. I have over-written a few files but the size was too insignificant as to merit being hailed in a review. I'm sure www.cdrinfo.com has more in-depth and technical info.
This burner at the price at which I obtained it is unbeatable. For those of you that are interested, this drive is supposedly a re-badged Plextor. I have yet to confirm this so don't go out and get it and update the firmware from Plextor yet, go do your homework. I take no responsibility for a messed up drive.
Also don't expect your burner to burn a 8X CD-R disc at 12X speeds, spend the time and money to get a high-speed disc instead of whining about how your burner doesn't achieve what the company claims. USE YOUR HEAD.
If you're in the market for a burner, have patience and take advantage of deals like the one I took advantage of.
