I have used Discount Tire Direct twice. Both times have been amazingly easy and pleasant compared to other online retailers and other brick and mortar tire shops.
First, you get to choose your tires and/or wheels from a selection provided to you after inputing your make/model/year of vehicle. The price is right there up front. They even suggest alternate sizes that will fit.
I found their wheel selection to be both more affordable and more "tasteful" than that of Tirerack, the other big name in online tire sales.
My tires were shipped to my home the first time, and after taking them to the local Discount Tire store to have them mounted, he informed me that they could accept delivery there at no extra cost, so on the next set I had them drop-shipped to that location. Both times the experience was fast, easy, and the price was right. They will mount/balance, with a lifetime guarantee on the balancing, and free lifetime rotation, your tires for just $11 each. Additional disposal and state fees raise this to $14/tire, but it was still about HALF what TireRack.com's "suggested" installers charged. And better yet, since Discount Tire was both the tire supplier and installer, there was no finger pointing to worry about if something went wrong. They stand behind the work. They also left the tires cleaner than other installers I've used. I also found that just calling other tire shops asking them to install your tirerack.com tires leaves you feeling like someone who was not invited to the party walking in. Yes, they'll do it, but they charge double and they act like you should have just bought the tires from them locally. So I didn't like that experience. They also will blame TireRack if there is a vibration problem. And vice-versa. So you could get stuck in the middle and have to pay again to get a problem solved. Discount Tire Direct solves that dilemma.
Their prices vary by tire, but on the tires I wanted, I paid about $80 less for a set than at Tirerack.com, after factoring in the higher install prices and shipping.
Which reminds me, DiscountTire ships them free! And if you order a set of new wheels with tires, they mount and balance them free and also ship them free.
Let's see. Better prices. Good selection. Better wheel choices. Friendlier and more professional mounting. I think it's a no-brainer that I'll be using them a 3rd time when my Truck needs new tires.
I also liked that their store was new and clean. Not a dump like some of the places I've used before.
