Good laptop/ terrible service

Cons: Plastic casing, shoddy construction
The Bottom Line: Avoid this laptop unless you are the gambling type. While the price is good, anything that goes wrong may leave you holding a bill for almost 700 dollars.

Like other reviewers I have found this laptop to be a good buy. It plays DVD movies with ease, handles just about any task I throw it very well, and is feather lite.
I can not say the same for Compaq service, however. Within 14 days of purchasing the laptop the screen was cracked. The crack occured while transporting the laptop from work to home while the laptop was CLOSED. The outside body of the laptop did nothing to stop this crack from occuring, even given the fact that it suffered no real collisions or impacts.
Initially the service was great, they sent me a airmail box to send the laptop to them in. I waited several days with no word from Compaq. Finally I called their customer support status center and was put on hold for over 45 minutes. Finally a customer service representative told me that the screens we're not covered under the hardware warranty "since the screen itself is not hardware." After numerous conversations with Compaq it became clear that they offered very little support for these screens.
Even more amazing was a supervisors assertion that these screens could be cracked by closing the lid with a paperclip on the keyboard or prodding it lightly with a pencil. This whole situation has left me very angry with Compaq, and dissapointed that this otherwise nice laptop has become a very expensive reminder that Compaq has the worst service in this industry.
