Installation & setup
Installation was easy. All you have to do is (1) take the cover off of your computer case, (2) plug the card into a PCI slot, and put in the holder screw, (3) screw the S/PDIF board in place, (4) plug the cable in that connects the two boards together, and(5) put the cover back on your computer. It only takes about two minutes.
The driver setup requires that you use the windows add new hardware wizard. This can be confusing to some beginners but it's not very hard, anyone could do it. The bundled software is setup with one setup wizard so it is very easy to setup.
Software
It comes with a pretty good software package called AudioStation 32. AudioStation 32 consists of a file player (for playing .mp3, .wav, etc. files), a CD player, a graphic equalizer (a very good feature), and a better looking audio mixer. It also comes with MIDI Orchestrator Plus and Hip Hop Ejay Demo. The software bundle is quite good for a board costing only $40. The only disadvantage is that the file player can't play .ogg, or .ape files.
Performance
It sounds good with two or four speakers. It has very low destortion and fairly low noise. It sounds good with music and games, I like it. The line out is a little weak though it can't get my powered speakers as loud as my cheap onboard sound could. Another line out for hooking it up to my stereo would help too.
Price
A quad board that sounds this good is well worth $40. That's less than SoundBlaster 16 PCI costs at WalMart.
The Bottom Line
Its a great card at a great price. I recommend it to everyone.
